What outfits have you been wearing most this summer?

It hasn’t been a typical summer in terms of weather so I have been trying to dress for comfort in the heat.

I have been in white pinstripe wide leg trousers and a black vest or black loose top (M&S.) I bought a pair of rust coloured balloon trousers (Next) and they have had a lot of wear too. For smarter occasions I have worn a pair of burgundy wide leg trousers (Fatface) and a burgundy short sleeved top (Boden.) Another outfit has been a patterned skirt (Mango) and a navy top (White Stuff.) It’s shorts in the garden mainly!

I have a photo of me on a beach in West Wales one August about ten years ago and I am in a coat and wellies and freezing so dressing for five heatwaves is novel!

What have you been wearing this summer?

This summer has made me rethink my clothing choices. I feel the cold terribly and live in thermals most of the year so I usually manage in summer by wearing bits of my winter wardrobe without the thermals. I am in an office 4 days a week.

I have bought a couple of jersey maxi dresses and a couple of maxi skirts plus a useful pair of wide leg linen trousers (don't like my legs much). I already had a few vest tops but added some shell tops/fancier t-shirts and that has seen me through. If we have another hot summer next year another dress wouldn't go amiss.

Like someone else some bits from the only-wear-on-foreign-holidays bag has made it into my everyday wardrobe outside of work.

Dress, both midi and maxi, occasionally skirts with t-shirts and jumpsuits.

Uniqlo has been my saviour. Built in bra vests in various cuts have been my favourite heat wave items, including their rib dress with built in bra. With hush khaki shorts or a floaty skirt or very light weight trousers. Sandals every day, Birkenstocks or Air & Grace. A couple of Oliver bonas dresses and a couple of linen sleeveless tops. Worn with a sun hat or cap. Despite suncream I’m still tall tanned and looking much more like my southern European heritage than I do normally!

I’ve actually really enjoyed the heatwave period and having a small capsule wardrobe of my favorite ‘holiday’ clothes. I feel like I’ve forgotten how to dress for cool weather.

Dresses.

But the best bit has been wearing lots of pretty pairs of shoes and sandals. They're mostly worn abroad normally.

Maxi dresses, dozens of them, plus skirts with linen vest tops. Too hot for trousers really but have dug out my wide leg linen trousers too which I have in navy, black and white

I wear tiny shorts around the house and maxi skirt or dress outside. I can only bear to go out in white and thin, loose fabric, when it's really hottest.

When at home a big old ( got it at a street market 10+ years ago ) one size fits all cheesecloth material , chuck over your head dress .
I've worn it most days as you can hand wash and dry overnight .
Wouldn't wear it out as its quite see through so having to change a few times a day . But it's lovely and cool .

Shorts and a smartish shirt or blouse when WFH, pale trousers and smart shirt or blouse for office days. Air & Grace pointed toe flats or some old butter yellow ballet flats for the office.

I even wore jeans out last night in the evening! It was so nice to not need a jacket or any sort.

A long tiered red and white check gingham skirt (charity shop bargain) with t shirts and tops, just got a Tu red and white slogan tshirt that’ll go nicely. My plastic birkies, nude and black, different ones.

Mainly some very lightweight cotton printed trousers I got from Aspiga a few years ago. So cool but I wish the legs were a bit wider. Mostly worn with a cotton vest top. For maximum coolness I really need some bamboo vest tops. Am wearing bamboo PJs and it is just the coolest fabric ever. Oh and on my feet flip flops or crocs. I never claimed any of this was stylish by the way!

Shorts, loose shirts, balloon trousers or dresses, with or without sleeves, all cotton or linen.

Tempted to get another denim skirt (knee length). My current one I’m too big for.

Truthfully, I’ve worn a cotton nightdress most of the time. Retired so I can get away with it, I think.

@Jane143, it is, but the quality is really lovely. There is so much care taken of the little pin-tucks, the material hangs just perfectly. And I've washed it and worn it all summer long, both this summer and last, and it still looks brand new. But I agree, I wish it was cheaper.

Mini dresses, Primark have some great ones. Also maxi dress from next . Just gym shorts and t-shirts at home

@Calliopespa, it is such a good dress. I am in the US, unfortunately, (from the UK originally, hence Mumsnet). You would be a size 1. I am a size UK 10-12 and a size 2.

I have lived exclusively in long summer dresses. I rarely wear trousers/jeans anyway but can’t even remember when l last wore a separate top and a skirt.

Rotating shorts (bought a load on Vinted at the start of the heatwave) with Crew cotton v necks. Metallic birkies.

Work - only been in a couple of times and switched shorts for navy culottes.

Same for me! I work from home and we have a dog so it’s practical over style here. I’m on the lookout for some new t-shirts though.
