Lightweight trousers and tops for hot humid weather and safari

Need some ideas. Going to a hot humid country and on day trip in safari park. Prone to mozzies so searching for any lightweight trousers and tops I can wear in that sort of weather so not completely sweating all the time.
I must be looking in the wrong place as I often see people in the streets wearing flowy type trousers or else using the wrong search terms.

Look at travel and outdoor brands that do insect repellent trousers and shirts e.g. Craghoppers NosLife, Regatta or Rohan.

I wear flowy trousers all summer - Bohotusk or forgotten tribes are both good

If you're on safari you may find there's a requirement to wear safari-type colours (grey, khaki etc) that day.

Whilst not stylish, mountain warehouse currently have good reductions on appropriate blouses and trousers for the safari section.

Oh, and if you're going somewhere where you may have to use squat toilets, I'd recommend trousers with elasticated ankles (harem pants?) like the Forgotten Tribes mentioned above. Trying to keep floaty trousers or skirts off the floor in a squat toilet is not easy!

So jealous! I bought some great light weight walking trousers from Amazon. They converted into shorts ..we were in Costa Rica and when it was really humid....shorts and a bikini top was the only thing I could bear.

Sweat is a great leveller!!😆

I'd recommend technical or sports wear over stuff that doesn't dry fully

My safari preference is a vest top and cotton or linen shirt. I wear skirts rather than trousers though (and DEET mosquito repellent). Skirts are easier for an al fresco wee 😄 (If you do wear a skirt you need to be able to take a biiiig step up into the jeep.)

If you have a hat make sure it'll stay on in a breeze if the jeep has no roof/open sides.

Most shops have cotton/ linen blend trousers in various shapes atm (barrel/ wide leg) I’d recommend Uniqlo, H&M and M&S.
Shirt wise I would aim for a very light cotton weave (muslin is great) in a looser fit. Again, H&M, new look, Zara etc all do these

Not what you were asking but a sports bra is good for the bumpy safari roads!

If they’re water repellent don’t they get really hot on the inside? I’m looking for some good walking trousers but as a sweaty woman I’m imagining the sweat dripping down and pooling in my shoes 😭

I was on a safari last year and wore Sweaty Betty Explorer trousers...the summer ones. They are light , breathable and dry quickly if you get wet! Actually wear them a lot thus summer too!

The internal membrane of the fabric wicks away your sweat, this then escapes through the fabric in smaller molecules than the exterior water, which can't get through the other way.

Swedemount have some nice trek trousers and shorts, they fit more like leggings. And have pockets!!!

Ohhh interesting!! I think I need to invest in some of these proper fabrics instead of sportswear. I think your username says it all about the difficulties of summer hiking. Pockets are definitely a bonus! Leggings without pockets should be illegal

I wore cotton t-shirts and cotton shorts on our 3 safaris this year and insect repellent. You do need to take a huge step (like get one leg a metre higher than other one) into jeep for ones we had. Another thing to bear in mind is with ours there was lots of dust / dry mud and bottom half got covered in it and it wasn't easy to get out so I wouldn't wear expensive clothes or if you do get mud coloured / take stain remover. Hats were blowing off, I didn't have one but husband did and lost it. It was very breezy which was good for cooling but meant things blew away easily especially as its very bumpy so sometimes you are concentrating on holding on. I avoided using toilets in safaris but they would have been squat / very basic. You are better to avoid bright colours. A hairband and tieing hair back would have been useful if you have longer hair as it was windy.

No, I didn't notice that really? Repellant usually means light water sits on the fabric but still very breathable. They got soaked when I went rafting but dried so fast.
Where as waterproof would be sweaty!

Is it just a day safari, @Findmetheperfect ? If you have a very early start it might be cold, especially if you're on an open sided bus. (I was on safari in Botswana in may - the temps were in the 30s during the day but dropped to well below 10 overnight, and our 6am starts meant we were wearing jackets and hats for the first couple of hours!)

Similarly, it might be very dusty in which case a light scarf or a buff might be useful to cover your mouth and nose.

Another vote for Boho Tusk trousers.
And for tops, 100% linen can’t be beaten in the heat.
