Thunder thighs!

I have skinny legs, but at the very top, on the inside, I have a thick pad of wobbly fat. So if I wear cigarette trousers for example, I have a lower thigh gap which is attractive, but my top inner thighs meet, making my legs look shorter if that makes sense. Does anyone know of any shaping shorts that can squash my inner thighs? Like pull the fat in? I can do it with my hands and it looks so much better! Any ideas?

How old are you? I’d work on getting more muscle in relation to fat rather than tight shorts if I am honest

I’m 55. No diet or exercise will fix this, I’ve tried everything. Even at low end healthy BMI I still have this stubborn fat. My legs are very muscular from exercise other than this. Apparently it’s hormonal. It’s either shape wear or some kind of cosmetic procedure (don’t fancy that!) It’s a shame as it spoils an otherwise good pair of legs and spoils the look of my trousers and jeans.

Nothing will completely get rid of it, I had it as a size 8 (so does my teen DD but obviously I don’t point it out!)
I have learnt to live with it and wear styles that are more flattering, so no short shorts or skinny jeans with a short top for example.
I’m also sure most people won’t even notice this about you, you’re going to be your own toughest critic

Is it possible that this is Lipodema rather than ordinary fat? If you do plenty of exercise and eat healthily and this just doesn't shift, it may be Lipodema and it might be worth asking your GP for a referral. There was a segment about it on Woman's Hour yesterday. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/lipoedema/

Thank you, I hadn’t thought of lipodema!

Not everyone has a thigh gap. I have solid legs and relatively narrow hips and didn't have one at BMI 19.

pastadish · 08/08/2026 10:38

Is that not just a normal shaped thigh? Thighs aren’t generally one straight stick like shape on a woman.
Im not sure what you mean unless you want that bit of fat to be gone with a thigh gap and it will look like your pelvis is too wide

Qualitypinnacle · 08/08/2026 10:50

I'd think something like these would do the trick

I really can’t picture what you mean. It sounds like a normal leg - bigger at the top?

thedevilinablackdress · 08/08/2026 11:23

Sounds like a perfectly normal pair of legs. I'd focus on wearing different styles of trousers, rather than wearing constricting underwear.

PlantainArama · 08/08/2026 11:37

They're just thighs!

I have in the past had a low BMI I and have fairly broad hips but I've never had a thigh gap. It's a place I naturally have large muscles so even the minimum amount of body fat (all women have subcutaneous fat) sits on top of that and meets in the middle.

Growing up in the 90s / early 00s I thought this was a terrible sin and I'd never look ok in swimwear.

Fuck that! I'm overjoyed to let that particular unachievable beauty standard go. Big thigh muscles are good for the heart. Being strong feels good.

shall I pop a photo up so you can all see what I mean? Would that be acceptable?

Yes ok then as most people think it sounds like a normal leg shape.

This is a perfectly normal womanly shape.
A “thigh gap” is a modern desire promoted by reality tv and social media.
Personally I find very thin straight up and down legs with a large gap between them unattractive and child like which just shows beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Unless you are overweight and want to reduce (and even then there is no guarantee where the weight comes off) there is no need to do anything about it except reflect on the variety of opinions of what constitutes beauty and how we are manipulated into disliking our perfectly normal bodies.
