Hair thinning in my fifties despite HRT and normal blood tests

Hello, so just lately since hitting the grand old age of 51 and now a little older I have suffered with my hair being so much thinner.

Its like its lost its thickness overnight! The condition has actually got better strangely enough, but I use to have lovely thick luscious hair and now it is super thin and coming out more in the shower, not huge chunks just more hair and not growing back, but it is growing in length just not in thickness.

I am on HRT, 2 pumps, 100mg of prog at night, all works a treat, had my iron checked, bloods all good and take magnesium ok, biotin high dose around 10000mcg a day, B12, D3, probiotics, upping my protein too, taking Routine Wellness shampoo and conditioner. I hit peri quite late in life but it was around 8 months after taking it that my hair became thinner.

Has anyone found a fabulous routine that works, or tried new products, added anything else in etc,Im not a great fan of Nutrafol is it? as dont want to take anymore supplements as its quite a high dose etc, but anything else I would love to hear if you have tried and tested!
thank you so much for reading

I’m mid forties and my hair was thinning drastically due to low ferritin. I know you say iron levels are normal but the NHS baseline for normal is actually very low (Ferritin of 30 from memory), mine improved drastically when I got my ferritin back up to over 100, with lots of new re-growth, and the shedding returned to a more normal level.

What is your ferritin level? Needs to be in the 80's or something for new hair growth.

viviscal works well for me.

I was also going to mention Ferritin. My bloods came back 'normal' but I asked for a copy at the surgery, and my Ferritin was 30 or something. So I then rang them and spoke to a doctor and said that I has specifically mentioned my hair loss and that my bloods were allegedly ok. I asked if I could have some strong iron tablets - the doctor agreed and put me on a 3 month dose of 200mg tablets and my hair stopped falling out! I'm 53.

Suggest you also invest in a shower filter like Hello Clean if you live in a hard water area. I bought one and it's made a huge difference to my hair loss.

A Hair + Me subscription (this is probably what’s contributing the most), regular use of a red light scalp massager and Glowwa Hair Food are working for me

Thats interesting, iron levels were at 38 which are just on the average its been like this for 5 years the doc was mentioning its not moved and my hair was super thick in those 5 years since now, so the only thing I can think of is related to the hormones but I might ask to double check etc. Thank you :)

I have found using a red light mask on my hair has helped fill it out again. I had one already and when I spoke to a dermatologist specialising in scalp and hair she confirmed that there was some evidence to show it could help female
pattern hair loss so I tried it and it helped. You can buy them specially for hair - see current body and other places - but I used one I already had.
