What is your wardrobe style for work?

Got a new job after many years and I am planning to refresh my wardrobe. I am very much a Sezane type girlie however with a limited budget so any tips on similar cheaper brands (good quality though) are welcome.
I am trying to clear out a few things and realise that the types of clothes that make me feel most at ease and confident at work are:

  • palazzo trousers or straight tailored trousers with pockets
  • shirts (boyfriend type, tucked in) in cotton, linen and silk
  • cosy jumpers
  • nice blazers with simple tops underneath

In winter I like to wear ankle boots and ballerinas in the summer. I’d like to treat myself to a pair of chunky loaf shoes but I am a bit scared that they’ll make me look like a hobbit as I have long feet but I am short. Any tips on these also welcome.

What is your go to office style and what brands do you normally buy?

I mostly wear shirts with wide leg trousers. Flat loafers or point toe flats. In the winter I add a jumper or a blazer. Occasionally wear a maxi skirt instead of trousers. I have a real uniform!

A real mix. I’ve got a lot of Uniqlo. Some Essentiel Antwerp (interesting shirts), some Me&Em, Rabens Saloner (interesting trousers), Mos Mosh, With Nothing Underneath, Rohe, Toteme (sparingly and usually bought on sale or pre loved). Some vintage skirts and blazers. So from very cheap up to pretty spendy. Shoes- my favourites are Esska brogues, Aeyde ballet flats and Toteme loafers. And I have a pair of fabulous MARGIELA Tabis but they are very marmite!

I’m mainly a dress person and have 2 different jobs - one of which has a more sober dress code than the other
In summer black, grey, white, navy, taupe plain linen dresses or shirt style button through, in winter plain sweater dresses with opaque tights or dark trousers plain or small print blouses or plain merino or cashmere jumpers
Other job is smart casual and can get away with brighter colours - today I’m wearing a bright orange knee length dress with matching pointed flats

Well I always love to chat about clothes!

WhatToWearMilan · 05/08/2026 16:57

I have a smaller range of clothes i wear to work when i'm in the office 3 days per week

M&S cigarette pants in black & navy
Benetton tapered trousers with turn up in black & navy
Me+em black wide leg italian cords
Brora tweed button front trousers in dark green

Shirts from Seazane, ba&sh, COS, essentiel antwerp, Whistles

Green loafers from Sturlini via Toast, Grenson brogue laced ankle boots, burgundy suede Gabor chelsea boots, Hoff trainers

Knitwear - cashmere crew necks in navy, black, wine m&s, chunky cashmere from COS & Whistles
Other cardigans from noa noa & sezane

I often retire nice clothes that were once my going out stuff & then get a secod use for work (once not super fancy,)

I could have written your post! I also like a flared jean with heeled boot in winter.

I get- wide leg trousers from Abercrombie and Fitch, Sloan in varying colours and prints- I love a statement trouser. Usually a Sezane belt.

100% Merino Crew Neck Jumpers from Uniqlo for plain knitwear, colours to complement the trousers.

I like Mint Velvet for shirts and blouses and very occasionally Boden though it needs to be more subtle than some of their louder prints. Often pick up Mint Velvet on Vinted BNWT.

I also have a large selection of Sezane jumpers and cardigans. Barry, Gaspard and the Ballerina style ones. I pick up from Vinted where I can.

I wear a lot of wide legged trousers. Either pleated our corduroy ones with a long sleeve top tucked in, I'll either add a sleeveless vest over the top in Winter or swap for a t shirt and jumper.

In Summer I tend to wear A line linen dresses.
