any tips on balancing it out? I think I have a nice top half but my hips are wide and my thighs and I always feel a bit of proportion.

I would say you need tops to widen you, the current milkmaid style with puffy sleeves or the Bardot neckline.

And wear lighter colours on top and darker on the bottom. Although there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a pear shaped figure. It’s very feminine in a more traditional way.

You need to balance out your figure. Try tailored jackets and shirts, V-necks, boat necks, halter necks, capped sleeves and horizontal stripes on the upper body to help make your shoulders look wider.

Additionally, plunging necklines, statement necklaces, scarves, patterns, wrap around tops and dresses, batwing tops and anything that draws the eye up will make more of a smaller bust.

Also be aware of cut and length of clothing to avoid anything finishing at your widest part: i.e. cropped pants not finish on the calf, sleeves should never cut across widest part of upper arms, waistbands never on your hips, belts not worn on your tummy.

My SIL has this figure but more extreme. Extreme pear if you like - more 8/16. She wears tight, low cut tops, and those a-line 50s high waisted long skirts, big chunky belt, or wide leg trousers. She always looks amazing and very sexy I think.

Okay thanks for all this. I should mention they my shoulders are actually very angular and not at all rounded. So the same sort of width as my hips . Does this change anything

Are cropped trousers a bad idea?

In that case, it’s more about maximising your smaller bust and drawing the eye towards that area - low cut necklines, statement necklaces, scarves, tops with patterns, wrap tops and wrap dresses.

Im a size 8 waist and 10 top and bottom. Occasionally 12 bottom depending on the elasticity of the trousers.
For some reason any dress which goes in at the natural waist looks awful. Empire lines look much better. A dropped waist is also awful.
Separates look much better, i tend to wear trousers with tops that just cover the bum and a top that isnt too tight or short to balance it out. Not sacks but not too tight either.
A line skirts are my most flattering to wear with a boxy top.
I like blouses with tank tops. They even out the top half.

So height is also a factor. Lots of tall people like me size up. Trousers are less of a challenge than tops because it is relatively easy to get trousers that are long enough. With tops, I have long arms and short sleeves are as much a problem as long. Mens t shirts and jumpers are quite a good way to do simple style with jeans.
