M and s jeans

Just wondering if anyone has found the sizing a bit off in the jeans in m and s. I’ve got a pair of sienna straight leg but they don’t fit me at the moment. I was 2 stone lighter when I bought them and they’re a size 10. Tried on the wide leg ones in a 14 and they’re were a bit tight around my muffin top waist. 16 was baggy in the bum and I’m not going there as trying to lose weight! Tried on boyfriend ones and a bit better but had this annoying stitched in turn up! My Levi’s wide leg are a size 31 and fit really well. Not sure what 31 is in terms of 12,14, 16 etc.

I’m also struggling with their jeans at the moment, saggy bums and tight waists in a 16. I’m just now wondering if it’s my mid-50s shape instead of the jeans; I tried on some White Company ones at the weekend and they fit perfectly in a 14.

I find they strangle my waist and push all my weight onto my stomach, really unflattering. I also put it down to age.

I found it was really off with the Harper jeans that I ordered recently. Size 14R fit perfectly in the general Harper style, however, I then ordered two pairs of the smart Harper style (one of each colour) in a size 14R and couldn’t even do them up. I think I would have needed to order a size 18 to achieve the same waist fit as my other pair, goodness knows what the leg fit would have been like. Needless to say they were sent straight back for a refund.

Really off, I'm 5'1 and short used to be perfect on me, now I need extra short and I'm an 8 everywhere else but struggled to do up a pair of their 12s

I recall posters on a different thread discussing M&S jeans/clothing. I'm pretty sure they were saying M&S sizing is reverting back to 'old' sizing and not vanity sizing. Something else about chasing different markets, hence longer leg lengths.

Someone in the know will be along soon 😆

I find the Eva to be very reliable, any others I’ve tried in the same size have been too small, same as others particularly on the waist.

Rumpledandcrumpled · 01/08/2026 08:20

It’s not just you, I’m a small eight everywhere, in places that vanity size I can take a 6, in markies an 8 give me a muffin top and is uncontrollable and tight, but the hips and arse is so wide they look ridiculous

I simply can’t wear their clothes even if I wanted to, which I don’t, as the quality has went right down hill.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/08/2026 13:13

Glad it’s not just me. @Rumpledandcrumpledi agree. I retired two coats last winter within weeks after purchase as they both ripped inside and the manager was insisting no others had been returned. I know a while ago fits used to be tighter in general but I never had issues with gap jeans sizing for example. I need to lose weight anyway but I think I’ll stick to my Levi’s!

Yes I don’t get it, online the clothes look fab, but when you go in store you see immediately it’s low quality materials and workmanship, obvs to keep price down. Snd the sizing is just odd,

it’s a shame as I do think they’ve hugely improved their styles this year, but they have now fucked up the quality and sizing.

BauhausOfEliott · 01/08/2026 14:07

I find they vary from style to style. Last time I tried some on I took in the same size in five styles and found some were far too big on the waist and some I couldn’t even zip up. Obviously some styles will be looser / tighter on the leg and a straight leg might be too tight on the calf or thigh for me, I get that. But to try on a wide leg pair and a barrel leg pair in the same size and find one pair too big on the waist and another pair I couldn’t even button is ridiculous.

I've given up on their jeans as I couldn't find a single pair that fitted/suited me. Went to River Island and they had a great selection, different lengths, shapes etc with a helpful sales assistant! Bought a super high-waisted pair.
