Which dress would you choose?

Which of these 2 dresses do you think you’d pick - I’m size 10 with small boobs and a slight tum. I’m 5ft 2 ins so it will nearly reach floor on me - tried it on and it wasn’t on the floor as I’d feared. Planning to wear it to a casual summer wedding and then afterwards for BBQs etc.

I like the stripes best. More timeless and chic than the floral.

The stripes are misaligned at the front neckline. The floral is much more forgiving in that respect.

Exactly - it's the first thing I noticed in the striped version! Well, the second thing after noticing - & liking - the pattern & colourway ...

In addition, the neckline itself is wonky! One side of the notch is clearly higher than the other ... I like the striped fabric & the colours, but it's completely the wrong style of dress to use a wide stripe in - even if it was a more expensive make that had many more hours of work spent in the making of it, it would still be inharmonious & badly matched. The crossover at the front doesn't work with the stripes either.

It's an optical mess &, much as I like the stripes & the colour, it would drive me nuts wearing it (I also have to straighten pictures anywhere I see them askew ...)!! Now that fabric & colourway in a different, much cleaner style of dress ... that would be much better!

The abstract floral fabric is also a really nice mix of colours - but is much more suited to the style of dress. So I would definitely choose it. I would also add a wide belt - maybe a tan or cream or green leather obi style - as I'm not keen on the big elasticated waist being so prominent (in either version).

@EleanorMc67 The floral version has a messy waist with mismatched fabric but it’s less noticeable. Where are these dresses made to be so cheap? Slave labour somewhere?

Yes, you’re probably right that someone, somewhere has been exploited. The price does seem v low.

Ooh, I like them both! I think I like the floral one best though.

I prefer the striped one , I think the colour is more uplifting , but at that price I would buy both if you like them.

I have ordered both. Will wear the floral for the wedding with sandals.

Much prefer the stripes, but I am not hippy so maybe have not had the stripe issues some refer to.

It would be better with a simpler full skirt & less bunchy waist.

As for the cost, I think that the main reason the clothes are so cheap is simply the huge buying power of supermarkets & the massive scale of production.

And there are no middlemen - it's all in-house & they sell straight from the supermarket floor/online. So there are no additional retail mark-ups.

Plus, although this dress is cotton, an awful lot of the clothes are viscose or polyester, which are the cheapest options. So that will also cut costs a lot in overall terms.

I like both dresses but think the abstract one for a wedding. The striped one is lovely too but a more casual summer dress!

What colouring do you have? It will make a difference to what dress will look best.

Floral for=wedding. Stripe for every day use.

Cotton isn't cheap?? High Street and supermarkets are full of cheap cotton dresses. M and S and H & M for example have dresses at around £28. The start price of these was £22.

The floral one is great- I would have guessed Oliver Bonas if I’d seen it out and about.

Primark has 100% cotton dresses even cheaper than these. Tu, M and S
and H& M have dresses in the same price range. I'm sure Next week will have too.

But like the Me + Em thread, there's cheap and poor quality cotton, viscose and polyester and there's not cheap good quality cotton, viscose and polyester.

George at Asda doesn't rate well on ethical standards.

What difference does it make how old OP is? If she likes the dresses and they fit and flatter her, why do you need to know her age?
