Sodding shirred dresses

Why oh why do 95% of summer dresses this year seem to have a shirred top?! I’m very tall, broad shouldered and I just feel like Ms Trunchbull in them all. I am struggling for holiday clothes.

I though that too, but tried one, I wear it back to front as it has a zip, so create a v neck. Honestly shocked it works on my body. Oh, I never use fabric conditioner it destroys elastic fibres!!

I'm the same as you op. There's still some non shirred dresses around, eg I got a couple in the nobody's child sale recently.

Can we add massive puffed sleeves too?!

I love a shirred dress, sorry. I am a 34FF and normal summer dresses are a real struggle due to how much material I need at the front compared to the back of my body. Shirred backs are good too.

They also hold the dress in against my body under the boobs meaning I don't look like I am wearing a tent. I wish I was taller, I am 5'4" but I have a 6'3" Dh. I feel positively tiny walking next to him, I fit under his chin.

I’m tall and broad shouldered, but just bought a lovely shirred top from Marks and Spencer! It is comfortable and looks great. Not my usual kind of thing but looked lovely when I tried it on. Try going up a size if you want the look but feel too constricted. I agree that Vinted or charity shops are the way to go anyway…. They have some great stuff and it saves things from going in the landfill.

Oh, God, yes, the puffed sleeves. I have broad shoulders, and the puffed sleeves make me look as though I'd have to turn sideways to fit through a doorway. Like my upper arms had some kind of allergic reaction.

Sometimes you can snip through the elastic at the bottom of the sleeve to deflate them a bit (depending on the design).

The selection of summer dresses this year has been quite a disappointment.

I do like a shirred waist but not the whole top of the dress. We’ve not had much in the way of dress suitable weather in my bit of Scotland but if we do get some warm sun I’ll be wearing the stuff I bought last year.
