Suitable for wedding?

I had a dress that I'd planned to lose weight for to attend my godsons wedding, it's still tight and with only 3 weeks to go I doubt I'll lose enough to fit into it now!

I have this dress, is it too casual? It's not a church wedding, it's in a country castle.

Sorry, no. I think it's far too casual and dare I say, quite frumpy. V neck neither up nor down. How old are you? Colouring? What's the dress like you planned to wear?

@Mumwithbaggage I'm fair, blonde and almost 50, the dress looks much nicer in real life, this is the dress that I was going to wear, it's just so tight and with only 3 weeks to go I doubt I'll be able to lose enough to feel comfortable!

I would take a look at the mid-summer sale at John Lewis; the first dress is too casual.

It's fine. I prefer it to the other dress. The colours are different but it actually reminded me of this dress.

I hate saying 'no' to OPs like this, and S&B would label almost all my clothes 'frumpy' ... but, having looked at other photos of the brown dress, it seems to have been designed to meet a brief saying 'Dowdy'! I'm sorry.

If budget's an issue, is your blue dress within the return window? It's still available in all the sizes. That colour should suit you really well, and its sleek & simple design is very different from the brown floral number.

If not, share your height, size and budget. People here would help you find another sleek dress in a strong block colour.

The brown dress feels rather drab for a wedding, especially one in a castle! The blue is much nicer, any way you could return it for a different size? Or find it in the size you need on vinted? Or just find something else in the right size on vinted?!

The first looks like Saturday afternoon at Tesco, followed by a barbecue. Which is a nice way to spend a day, but it doesn’t equate to a wedding in a castle setting.

If the blue dress is merely tight rather than a size too small, you could probably get into it by cutting out carbohydrates and alcohol for three weeks. And maybe adding shape wear. But it’s an oddly harsh colour and I can’t help thinking you could find something actually lovely between now and then.

(And given the vast pre-owned market it need not mean a huge financial outlay.)

I'm an apple shape and it's so hard to find something that suits my strange shape! I'm very wide in the waist, this is the dress on me, too late to return it now, budget is around £100 as need to also get shoes & bag

i think it looks nice! Doesn't actually feel uncomfortably tight to wear or do you just feel a bit self-conscious in it? If you just feel a bit self-conscious, you don't need to be.

However, if you're gonna afford another dress for around £100, I'm sure you'll have plenty of options.

But the original one you posted isn't suitable for a wedding at a country hotel no.

I really like the blue! Could you do as a pp says and hyperfocus for three weeks, or does your body not work like that? It's absolutely fair enough if you can't/don't want to.

If you do decide it's a no, definitely don't think the first dress is suitable.

I love the dress just not the way I look in it! I lost 4st then the last few months put on 7lb so feel bloated in it. I guess I can try and lose the 7lb in the next 3 weeks, I'm sadly one of those people who self sabotage whenever there is a special occasion looming.

It does look good on you! (The blue suits you, and the shape is great, particularly at the waist.) Is it done up at the back? And are you already wearing shapewear in the photo?

If so, it really depends whether you love it enough to take steps to feel more comfortable in it in three weeks.

Ah … I suspect if it becomes just a smidgen less snug around your hips it will hang more easily from the shoulders without very slightly bunching up there.

Must it be so long? Hard to see in your photo, but for a daytime wedding it might be cooler and smarter (both in every sense) to have the hem above your ankles.

1st dress is too casual IMO. You could get some spanx or shapewear to smooth the blue dress out and it might feel better on. M&S are always good for those.

my ankles have really bad thread veins which I'd rather hide, I'm not wearing the shoes in the photo, I've got high heeled silver pointed shoes, silver accessories

I think the blue dress looks lovely, it’s one of my favourite colours. It’s a smidgen neat around the hips, but I probably wouldn’t have noticed that if I wasn’t looking. I would buy some shape wear and accessories then it will be perfect.

You look really lovely in the blue dress. I think it would perhaps suit an open-toed heeled shoe better if that's something youd be able to find/wear? Either way, it looks fab on you.

Absolutely agree with this! You don't even need what I like to call reinforced concrete knickers, just a pair of long-waisted 'smoothing' pants with plenty of lycra 🙂

Blue dress looks lovely. It actually doesn’t look too tight but to be on the safe side and ensure you feel comfortable, get some shapewear and watch your diet for the next three weeks!
