School shoes for a style-conscious but non-trendy Y7 daughter

My daughter has her own style and is not one to follow what is on-trend. She's Y6 into Y7 in September. She's my 4th (youngest) child. I have been there and done that as a parent.

To give you a flavour of my daughter - all the girls at school (inc both older brother's girlfriends and her sister) wore the standard uniform tartan skirt, rolled up. My daughter wants to wear trousers. All the girls have Longchamp bags, she wants a grey and white striped rucksack with cat badges in it. I think she's probably emo, but I'm not keen to give her a label.

So - Y7 school shoes. I asked what she wants. She wants Doc Martens boots.

School uniform doesn't allow for boots so she isn't pleased. I showed her Doc Martens Mary Jane's and loafers - she's not keen on either because they aren't what she imagines Doc Martens are.

Does anyone have any suggestions of companies or shoes that meet the black school shoes requirement, for a budding emo, who is also something of a rule-follower and bookish, but not interested in trends?

Just the normal DM lace up shoes, surely. Why go loafer or Mary Jane.

Regular DM lace ups are great.

As above, regular lace up DMs. No need for Mary Jane’s or loafers. My year 7 had lace up DMs last year.

Just get her some plain brogue type things from Clarks. Daft to pay DM prices for an 11 year old whose feet are still growing.

DM shoes.

As above, I’ve just got DD - going into Y10 - some DM lace up shoes. She sounds very much like your DD @AmberLime.
