Help with Yoga looks.

I've recently started yoga and made a couple of rookie errors! Firstly I wore a loose top which immediately flopped over my face when I went into a shoulder stand, revealing my flabby torso to the whole class 🙄. Secondly I turned up in trainers which take me an age to put back on, I noticed everyone else was in slip on footwear.

What works for you? I feel like if I have something nice to wear I'm more likely to make a long term commitment to this.

Whenever I’ve done yoga I’ve used yoga leggings (from H&M sport), crop top (H&M sport) and baggy tshirt (H&M sport).

A tank top that has built in cup support is great for yoga and you can add a loose top over it if you want

Grip socks

Slip ons- Birkenstocks or uggs

Layers in the winter/ keep a large scarf in your bag for when you are doing the cool down

I wear stretchy sports leggings and a big, loose t-shirt. If I'm doing anything like a shoulder stand where my top might move and reveal too much I just tuck it into the top of my leggings.

In my class the usual look is leggings that go right up the crack of your arse

I usually get my stuff from https://bambooclothing.co.uk/category/womens-bamboo-clothing/womens-clearance/

For feet, skechers slip ons

Me too including some great tops that really stay in place when you go upside down.

Pour Moi does a cross back jersey top, Matalan does cuffed yoga jogging bottoms, Sweaty Betty and BAM do yoga tops.

Personally, when I wore yoga clothes I looked for clothes which were comfy and easy to move in. Sports bra was too tight and restrictive. I didn’t wear baggy yoga trousers as I preferred leggings.

Yogafiend · 22/07/2026 13:28

I get my stuff from lulu lemon and sweaty betty. Yoga leggings so you can move in. Slip on sketchers. But to be honest no one is looking at you as they are doing their own thing.

I just wear what’s comfortable. Leggings or shorts and a sports bra (otherwise they escape in downward dog), usually two t shirts - one fairly tight so it doesn’t flop and a looser one over the top, both are long enough to go half way down my butt as a minimum. Trainers or crocs depending on which are grabbed first. The entire class seems to wear different things, some wear joggers but all seem comfortable. Tbh, once the practice starts we are all concentrating on not falling over too much to notice what anyone else’s clothing has done. Don’t worry too much, just be comfy.

i go to pilates in leggings and a running t-shirt. if we do anything upside I just loosely tuck it into my waistband. always trainers because I walk there and back.

My top tip is a bodysuit. Yes, I know they're a bit 90s, but they're so handy. Even if your leggings or trousers slip down a bit, you're still covered, and your kidneys stay warm (as someone's nan would no doubt say Grin)
In warm weather you can just wear it with leggings/yoga trousers, and in cooler weather you can put a top over it. I have sleeveless ones and long-sleeve.
Wrap tops with ties are nice for yoga, or sometimes I wear a T-shirt but knot it to one side so it doesn't fall over my face.

OwlCalledSage · 22/07/2026 13:43

I generally wear a crop top (not a really short onr, only a bit of flesh on show) and Sweaty Betty 7/8 leggings. My husband bought me some ALO yoga stuff, but honestly, Sweaty Betty is just as good.

I would avoid a loose top, as you say, they will flop in certain poses.

I just wear Birkenstocks on my feet for speed.

HelenHywater · 22/07/2026 13:44

I wear leggings and a tight vest with a built in bra (like you I don't like my top flapping around when I'm in downward dog). I go in flip flops or hoka trainers (which I can slip on/off) or vans if I ride my bike. Birkenstocks also seem to be de rigueur. I also buy from Sweaty Betty or Lululemon - expensive but it lasts for years.

I do have some Sweaty Betty stuff but honestly my H&M stuff (yoga) has lasted me 10 years! TK Maxx is good for brands too.

Thanks everyone, I've ordered a few bits from H and M online 🙂 in the meantime I'll tuck my T shirt in!

I do reformer Pilates and have a load of those vest/tank things with the built in bra - from Uniqlo and M&S. I often wear a sports tee over which I may or may not take off depending on how hot it gets, then either flared yoga leggings from H&M or standard Sweaty Betty leggings.

I tend to go in Birkenstock Boston clogs but do sometimes wear trainers if it’s raining as I walk there and back.

HoldMyWine · 22/07/2026 16:58

As others have said a best top and leggings or cycling shorts. On my feet Birkenstocks, crocs or flip flops. I buy most of my gear from M&S good move range.
