Please help - what do I wear with this dress as a cover up for wedding?

Hi all,

Attending a wedding in a few weeks time and have my dress sorted (photo attached). However I'm struggling to decide on what to wear as a layer. Church ceremony and some outdoor evening elements so likely to need some warmth at some point and the invite advises layering up! Am wearing silver shoes if that's relevant 😅

Current thoughts:

• Have thought about a silver scarf/shawl but invite specifies formal dress code so not sure if this is formal enough?
• Cropped waterfall jacket affair maybe as will provide more warmth and I suit that style, anything super cropped and I look a bit ridiculous but also wouldn't go long jacket as it's a midi/maxi dress.

-Tempted to consider a bold colour to pop against the dress but not sure what would go given the dress is quite muted colour wise... Magenta maybe!? -Likely to be sourcing via Vinted as I've already spent a lot of money attending and not sure how much repeated use I'd get from anything here.

I’d wear red jacket and red sandals but I like colour.

What colours do you suit? A bright or electric blue would go, with silver sandals shoes. I think silver scarf/shrug would look too much like the dress eg similar.

I hate “pops” of colour, it’s so dated and fussy.

personally I’d do a navy velvet blazer.

If I were you I’d look on Vinted for a cropped jacket in black or dark grey, dress is lovely, doesnt need any pops of colour!

Hobbs always used to do a little cropped jacket in a silk, almost like a cocktail jacket, I think a silvery grey one would look lovely over that dress

Love this suggestion. Go red! Otherwise I think silver, white etc would make it look rather insipid.

I would avoid a jacket as that’s quite formal over such a pretty dress. And I find cropped jackets quite dated/aging now. Instead is go for a short cape style, probably in purple to bring out the deep colour in the dress.

silver shoes would be fine. And you could perhaps pair with a matched colour bag.
