Indian wedding help

Am going to a British/Indian wedding later this summer. Actual wedding in church, all straightforward. Party the night before with Indian food and dancing. The Indian women will be in lehengas. Dress code is very open so I don’t have to look for a lehenga, though I am open to the idea. I definitely want something bright and fun. Happy to look at Vinted etc, but wondering if anyone has ideas.

I’m 5’4 and a size 18-20. Would rather not have lots of midriff showing, but a sliver is okay.

I wouldn't worry about it being too plain. The advice I was given re dress code from the groom was just to wear what I would to an English ceremony. I wore black trousers with a loose colourful top,. Black white and red solid colour outfits I think are considered bridal, so should be avoided if I remember correctly.

I would love a Raishma dress if I could find one in the right size and budget!

I feel like that’s close-fitted at the part of my body where I most need some more room. I think if I go full Indian-style, there are better ways for me personally. But thank you for the suggestion.

Indian here - You can jazz up a midi/maxi dress with jewellery and make up. Or go for an embellished maxi dress like this - have a look at Maya and Coast

That dress is lovely. I think you could wear that. The important thing about Indian weddings is that you need to feel comfortable and feel good in what you are wearing. I am Indian and if there’s dancing then a sari is not the best option as you will either trip on it ( some people wear them a bit higher but it’s not a good look) or if it is pinned then your midriff or part of it will show. Wear that dress and jazz it up by buying some Indian jewellery sets. Depending on where you are just go to the place where theatres lots of Indian shops selling lehngas and you will find Jewellery and bangles. Take the dress with you you will definitely find something. I think pearls would look good with that.

2nd dress you could accessorise with blingy silver.

HOW much?! It's absolutely stunning, and at that price I could get one just to take the bins out as a highlight of my, er, glamorous life.

Disclaimer: I'm about as unlike the model as it's possible to be and would look absolutely rubbish in it. But I'm keeping that vision in my head. Love everyone's choices and advice!

Me and DH went to an Indian wedding a couple of years ago. I didn’t want Indian dress but wanted a nod to it with metallic embroidery. I looked at several options and eventually found this which I accessorised with gold sandals and bag and big earrings. I had several compliments so it obviously fit the bill!

Lehengas are very flatting on all different figures.

You will likely need multiple outfits.

Depending on the wedding.

I had 7 outfits for my last Indian wedding.

I wouldn't get a saree unless its pre-sewed or there is a professional draper service.

Sangeet wear something sparkly or darker colours

Haldi wear something pink, yellow, or orange.

Wedding ceremony, wear your best and most expensive outfit. Lehenga or saree. You would probably be expected to wear something fancier than the ones shown.

If you are on the grooms side there will be a Baraat wear a light Leghenga or indo-westen outfit.

No, I am invited to two events. It is Indian and British mixed so they have picked and chosen which events and who is invited to what. The wedding is in church and I have a dress for that. There is only one Indian event I’m going to, the jaggo, and that’s the one I’m looking for a dress for.
