Using Tret and summer?

I have been using Tret for about 5 years. This summer I have been enjoying the sun, but using a high factor. As a result I have postponed my Tret for 4 weeks. They have just sent me a new tube.

Can I use Tret when on holiday in the sun, and sitting in it? Or should I just lay off it till the Autumn?

You need to use it consistently, for anti ageing.

And you’re just wasting your time if you’re still exposing your skin to the sun.

I’ve been using it for about three years and spend a big chunk of the summer holidays abroad. I do use SPF50 and wear a hat however for a month I don’t use it as it don’t want to have a negative impact on my skin. I’m suspending my tret until September now.

Can someone give me a recommendation for a good one. I tried one for a month with no impact.

I’ve stopped using it for a few weeks as although I’m incredibly careful l, I don’t want to risk even short exposure to the sun with tret on my skin.

@Marycontrarygarden it’s not a short term thing so after a month there will be little difference. I’m pleased with skin + me and would definitely recommend it.

I have a break from tret between May-September ish.

If you will religiously wear SPF 50 on your face I think it’s fine to carry on.

The percentage of tret in skin and me is ridiculously small though?!

@MarycontrarygardenIt does start low and increase or I’m sure you could start higher. I’ve previously requested a higher % and they’ve done it.
Dermatica start higher so you could look at them instead.

I think it’s the SPF that’s the most important thing. Plenty of people use tret and live in places like Dubai/Spain etc all year round.

Not sure I would literally sit in it/sunbathe (as that's causing more damage whatever) but I think with a good SPF I'd go to a hot place and walk around.

A hat is a good idea.

You are only using it at night aren’t you? Avoid vitamin c serums in the morning, use spf 50 and you’ll be fine.

Once you’re used to it you’re supposed to keep up usage and just protect your skin. If you’ve had a break you may need to start slow when you restart using it again

i get my tret from Uncouth, half the price of other prescription services. I am using through the summer. I use spr 50 and a hat. My body is brown but my face is so pale. I don’t mind though.

I cannot use retinol at all in the summer - even with factor 50 my skin is just too sun sensitive and I burn. I will restart in the autumn. Obviously some people are okay with it during the summer - you just have to be very careful

I use it all year round. I just make sure I have a decent SPF50 (in my case, Altruist Face Fluid). I also don’t really sit in the sun, I’m always in the shade. But walking around etc still needs protection and that’s where the SPF50 comes in.

You can use tret on holiday in the sun, key is that SP 50+ isn't optional, it's mandatory. Tret makes your skin more sun-sensitive, so if you're sitting in the sun you need to reapply SPF every 2hrs or wear a hat/seek shade when you can.

(That said, if you're on vacation & want to actually enjoy yourself without obsessing over sun protection/tret timing, taking 2-3wk break is fine & sometimes nice for the skin. 5 years of tret means your skin is adapted & you'll pick it back up without issues but best if ask your derm because they will know yoru skin analysis better.)

I use a good spf with tret in summers and there is no problem. So here is my routine that I follow with that:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel
