Has anyone got any positive tales about electrolysis, especially on the chin or neck? I’ve been having it, only for a short time so far, but see no progress. It would really help me if I could hear some experience of it working.

My mum and my sister had it for what seemed like years and it made no difference at all.

I also had it for an age and it made no difference. The aesthetician did try to persuade me otherwise but it did nothing. Laser worked for me.

It works, but it’s an ongoing battle on hormonal areas like the chin, as new ones come up. I’ve had it on and off for 20 years, and still have hairs appear. On other parts of the body where I had a few sessions, the hairs never came back. I’d see if you are suitable for laser instead.

My colouring means I’m definitely not suitable for laser

I have gone for electrolysis on my chin (see my name) and it has made a big difference. I started probably six or so months ago and was going weekly. Am now down to monthly and have maybe three hairs showing at any time vs having to have tweezers and a micro blade in every room to remove the horrible hairs. So I am a big fan but anticipate having to continue as I am on testosterone and seem to be very sensitive to it….

Yes - electrolysis is brilliant and I wish I'd done it before. It took about 1.5 - 2 years to get rid of everything because the hair is only 'killed' when it is in the right point of the growing cycle so it may take a few goes. You need to go fairly regularly to have a good result. It was life changing to get rid of bleach/hair removal creams. Stick with it! You have to know you are in it for the long haul but it is SO worth it.

You definitely won't see results immediate short term because there are lots of hairs that individually have to be destroyed with the electrical current at the follical and some take several goes if the hair isn't actively growing at the point it is treated. Your practitioner should have explained this to you and if they didn't I would worry that you aren't at the right place! You should ensure that your therapist is a member of the British Institute & Association of Electrolysis. I wouldn't let anyone who wasn't a member near me. They have to be properly trained and certified.

Something I started later was for a few hairs on the top of my feet around the bony part where I would often nick or cut myself when shaving because of the bone - I wish I'd done that earlier because it was great to avoid having to shave there . If you are going anyway and you have hair there, get them to do that too.

Once you are finished, you may need to go occasionally for rogue hairs or later in menopause where you may get a few spiky hairs from hormone change apparently.

Couldn't recommend it enough and wish I'd done it when I was younger.

So many beauty therapists that perform the treatment aren’t suitably experienced. So it can be a waste of money, as they aren’t doing it properly.
