Black dress with a pop of colour for a funeral?

Hi folks,

My mum passed away a couple of weeks ago, and I'm looking for the right outfit for her funeral. The dress code is whatever makes you comfortable - black or colour - as my mum would have loved both. I'd love to find something that has a lot of black but also a hit of colour - ideally a dress, though I may have to go for a skirt/top combo.

Shirt dresses and fit and flare type things tend to suit me - things that flow out from the waist. So far this is my favourite, but I'm not a huge fan of the pattern close up - but I love the blast of colour! Has anyone got any wonderful suggestions? Thanks!

I wouldn’t spend too much you may feel you don’t want to wear it again.

Could you use a scarf or necklace or cardigan for the colour?

I think as the daughter, it’s your call. You don’t need any approval from anyone.

I do however think that’s a cheap looking dress, and it’s 100% polyester.

This isn't necessarily the dress I want - I'd rather not go 100% polyester, and while I like the effect of it I'm not keen on it close up! I'd like something that combines black and colour, and I've hit a road block when I've been searching - Hence seeing if the lovely MN crew have any good ideas.

Thanks for the ideas! I'm definitely after a black and color dress if I can though. I wear a lot of all black for work, and also not a chunky necklace person. I love a scarf, but I suspect it's going to be far too warm for that!

Thanks everyone for your ideas so far. I've realised there are some key bits I've missed out of the original post..

• I'm not 100% sold on the Izabel dress (and the last Izabel work dress I had didn't last too long) but I imagine it would look fab at a distance
• Budget is probably around £100. I'm not too sentimental about clothing and am aiming to buy something I'd wear again.
• Trying to avoid all black as a) Mum loved colour, b) I wear a lot of black in my work anyway and so have plenty of that already in the wardrobe. I'll probably wear one of Mum's plentiful scarf collection but I suspect it'll be too warm to wear it for long, and chunky jewellery doesn't suit me
• Needs to have sleeves. I think short would be better but long would also work

-I'm pretty short and a size 6-8 depending on brand.

My dad's funeral was earlier this year. I wore plain black trousers and a gipsy top that has colour on the sleeves, would something like that work?

We asked for black and bright at my dad’s funeral, I wore black trousers and a bright yellow top. He loved the sunshine so I am sure he’d have approved.
At a funeral recently the ask was to wear some red for his football team, I wore a black dress with black heeled sandals but carried a red handbag and painted my nails red. I know you’ve said you would rather have colour in the dress but mentioning as an alternative way of accessorising.
