What to wear to a colourful funeral in tribute to my friend

Sadly, I lost a very dear friend recently and it is her funeral in a couple of weeks. I have just received a notice about the funeral arrangements from a family member and it requests everyone to wear bright colours. I generally live in jeans and a season appropriate top, but feel as if this occasion demands that I make a bit of an effort.

My late friend was a very colourful lady with a taste for bright coloured clothes, Irregular Choice shoes and leopard print, and I would like to somehow pay a small homage to her style and taste in my outfit, so I feel a smart dress or trouser suit would fit the bill. I'm useless at shopping, so any suggestions welcome. Happy to spend 3 figures for the right outfit. Thank you.

(I'm in my 70's, tall, short grey hair and a size 10 if that helps).

when I read bright and leopard print my mind went to Scamp and Dude. Either a dress or one of their scarves to add some of your friend’s flair to a plainer dress/suit if you think you’d be more likely to get more wear from that.

This is nice, colourful, inexpensive, and appropriate.

Have a look on vinted. You can pick up some beautiful dresses/tops for very little. Some French brands do some stunning colourful items

I'm sorry for your loss. Personally, I'd wear something that I could wear again. Depending on the weather, I'd likely wear existing trousers of any colour then a bright blouse and light jacket/blazer or a dress.

Do you have something you can wear but add a beautiful scarf and a bright pair of shoes?

NorWouldTilly great suggestions. Either would be perfect.

First of all, I have been caught out by these requests and turned up ‘colourful’ to discover everyone else was in black and navy. Secondly, you don’t have to go to the expense of buying a new outfit. We went to a funeral where people were requested to wear red and/ or yellow and I simply bought a scarf on amazon. On that occasion the widdower wore a red raincoat and another friend wore a yellow parka. Again, no one else bothered.

Add a colourful scarf to your normal clothes. And maybe a chunky necklace.

At the one I was at recently anyone in black or navy would have stuck out like an ill mannered sore thumb. It would have ignored the specific instructions of the deceased, who knew she was dying, and her family's request.

I've just returned from my DH's funeral. I wore blue linen trousers and a pale pink polo shirt.

The next dress I like. I’d definitely opt for more formal fitted styles though personally I’d be wary about too much colour because I too have been caught out, people ignoring the request for colour (bil I’m looking at you!) I’d probably opt for a dress with no more than two colours that I can wear again
