How do you look presentable in this heat?

I don’t have hyperhtdrosis but feel like I’m constantly sweating and looking a mess. I don’t have high standards just want to look clean and tidy. It’s a losing battle

I take two lukewarm showers a day, one right before bed. I apply antiperspirant both times

No makeup in this heat other than brow pencil and la Roche posay uvmune face spf. Set it with translucent powder to mattify, my face still gets shiny

I can’t wear white or light coloured tops as you’ll see sweat marks. Also body sunscreen (tried loads) always tends to stain my white clothing yellow

I like wearing black tops as don’t get any sweat marks but then I tend to get some visible lint on my black tops (even new tops, and I wash clothes inside out with similar colours).

My upper lip sweats a lot so I’m regularly blotting it. I also have a history of eczema on mouth area which can flare it a bit so goes quite red

When applying sufficient amount of body spf on my arms and legs it can separate and become a bit patchy/streaky after I’ve been out and about, random bits can stick to the spf too making me look so unkempt

I ensure to rub the body spf in well (I actually think creams are better than sprays for getting initial even application), but as the day goes on it just looks bad. I am currently using high protection spf by the brand Altruist (one of the highest ppd ratings) yet I still seem to get more sunspots (and likely skin damage)

I have tried lots of diff body SPF, all still do this to me.

& finally I’m naturally a hairy person, I try hard to stay on top of body hair removal but in harsh sunlight it’s so unforgiving and I always tend to miss random spots ffs. I epilate daily but because hairs are dark I feel you can still see tiny dots of roots growing in (too short to remove)

Meanwhile so many other people still manage to look so presentable, no sweaty shininess, very flawless and hairless smooth skin - how??

I don’t. I’m a sweaty, lanky haired mess.
Loose dresses, magicool spray, a handheld fan, and a hat get me through the day.

ETA I also have the M&S dress - it’s lovely

Just go slower

StarCurator · 11/07/2026 18:44

That is very tough. My skin used to be fine in the heat, provided that I drank a lot of water, but now it flares up, though not as badly as yours. I recommend getting an Evian or other spring water spray; they are expensive these days in the UK, but likely cheaper in Paris, and in any case worth it for keeping our faces cool and hydrated. The small containers also look quite chic and they last for a long time:-) I find that salicylic acid helps somewhat with the flareups. Bonne chance!

Oh I really appreciate the personal recommendation, Thankyou! I can’t abide Charlotte tilbury though, really find her grating, so that would spoil my enjoyment of the product! There’s currently a drama going on online about how she is made in the same factory with the same ingredients as kiko milano. Not relevant but possibly interesting. Or not, idk!

Ooh, thanks. I’ll check out Kiko

Whatever365 · 11/07/2026 21:14

@Charys I know what you mean about Charlotte Tilbury herself being annoying. I can’t deny the make up is good stuff though

I was in Thailand last April and it was as hot ( and hotter ) than this, with insane humidity. One thing I did that really worked for me was to put face powder on before foundation. I found it really helped me to not look sweaty and helped the foundation stay on.

I only wear natural fabrics in this weather.
I don’t usually wear sleeveless dresses but I’ve made an exception these last few weeks.
I’ve been wearing sleeveless cotton shift dresses for work with comfortable leather sandals. We have a dress code so I still need to look presentable.
In this extreme heat I pin my hair up. I spray light perfume all around my neck both front and back. I Use anti perspirant.
I don’t wear much make up. Just mascara and lip balm. I use Garnier vitamin c with spf 50 on my face. I find it doesn’t clog or annoy me. It also doesn’t leave a white sheen.
I wear body moisturiser daily. Currently I’m using Boots Soltan after sun body butter.
I wear big cotton knickers, no scratchy nylon whatsoever.
I have to wear a bra for work so find I’m washing them after every wear.
I do have several linen and cotton skirts but the waistbands have been annoying me, so tend to stick to dresses.
I also swap shoes regularly, so as to avoid any sweat build up. So I’ll wear sketchers or crocs until I get into work then swap to presentable leather sandals.
I do wear plenty of jewellery too to add to outfits. Sunglasses always.

Try teaching jn 33 degrees, anyway, my tip is wash hair in morning before work, twist up in butterfly clips. So cooling! Stays damp all day....

I don't wear spf!!! Too many chemicals, if I'm going to be in the hot sun awhile I use a zinc base cream, no shine, work uniform for me is all black!! So I wear. Leggings and shirts that are air tec , I use natural deoderant shower twice a day, tie my long curls up in a messy bun with leave in biotin oil, only use lip moisturiser and mascara, no face makeup it shines, but i look sun kissed atm. Also at work I stand in front of the floor fans, it drys my skin, its very hot and we have no a/c

… I mean even water is a chemical :) You can also get mineral based spfs like Zinc Oxide/Titanium Dioxide. Not all zinc ingredients offer protection so I hope yours is zinc oxide based at least?

Avoiding spf when there’s such a high UV index can increase your risk of skin cancer

lip moisturiser, mascara, and natural deodorants are made of chemicals too

50s menopausal, teaching in sauna classrooms, I do my eyebrows and lipstick, knowing the sweat will wash it all o

Thing is, all the make up the teen girls put on sweats off as well so they keep reapplying (secretly 😆)

Only thing I can do to cope is tie hair back handheld fan, which i take around the classroom to help cool my beloved students off too.

This is what I do as well! Plus handheld fan with me while in front of the classroom and walking around.

@AlwaysExtraHot Is it in the airism ultra stretch fabric? I also have one of their airism cotton dresses (the tshirt dress one) and it definitely isn’t as cool as the ultra stretch one.

I don’t think so. Mine’s also a T-short dress, midi length, from a few years ago.

Tralalalalatata · 12/07/2026 08:10

Linen and cotton. Go-to outfits: linen tapered trousers (WNU), light cotton shirt with sleeves rolled up, tucked in; linen-mix wrap shirt dress; linen midi pencil skirt and light cotton-linen shirt with sleeves rolled up and tucked in (am a slim hourglass so waist definition is essential).

And repeat! I also have some linen trousers suits that am wearing for presentations and speaking gigs.

Hair always up in a chignon, large earrings, no other jewels apart from wedding ring.

Sandals and medical pedicure (amazing, the only kind I get any longer).

And plan my commute around what is air conditioned and when it is likely to be coolest!

Oops, I meant T-shirt dress, obviously!

CortieTat · 12/07/2026 14:54

I wear linen, hemp and thin cotton (such as tana lawn), layers - a sleeveless top plus an open oversized shirt to cover my arms. Loose fitting but not shapeless clothes without any frills - one thing less to think of. Well fitting sun hat plus sunglasses. Staying in the shade during midday, avoiding very cold air-conditioned spaces and anything that brings extreme temperature changes - I don’t drink cold drinks for example, just cool/room temperature and hot coffee or tea.

Sheer mineral spf on face plus k-beauty dewy sheer coverage foundation - full coverage just melts away. I’ve always had short or very short hair so no problem with that.

I also use crystal deodorant in summer and another non-antiperspirant in winter. I stopped using antiperspirants over 20 years ago never looked back. It took a short while to adapt but I actually sweat less without antiperspirant.
