Midlands spa day recommendations

Can anyone recommend a good place for a spa day please? Up to an hour or so away from Coventry. I'm not bothered by the food but I'd like the surroundings to be nice. I'm taking my daughter, who is early twenties, for a birthday treat. We both like to swim so a pool would be a bonus. I have googled and used TripAdvisor etc. but seem to be going in circles .. Thank you.

Can you get to the wonderful Ragdale Hall think it’s less than an hour

FlamingJune2026 · 04/07/2026 14:31

I haven’t been to either of these for a few years but Hoar Cross Hall and Champneys Springs were both nice.

twirlypoo · 04/07/2026 14:43

I was coming on to say Hoar Cross Hall, it can get very busy though but it’s lovely.

floofbeansupreme · 04/07/2026 14:44

Mallory Court 100%

Hoar Cross Hall
Fawsley Hall
Mallory Court

All of those are lovely!

I thought champneys was beyond poor when I went a few months ago. Not sure which one I went to, was in Leicestershire. Food was average. Nowhere to sit for coffee and cake mid afternoon. Literally no seats. One rather dull pool, a sauna, a steam room, a small jacuzzi and then a larger jacuzzi type pool which was meant to be limited to 8 and had about 30 people in it. No seats available round the pool at all, they were all reserved with towels.

Went to a Pilates class which wasn’t Pilates and a bit rubbish. We were overcharged for coffee as they added a 20% tip even though it’s not table service. Menu says you can ask for that 20% to be removed and I asked for it to be removed and the woman behind the till refused and said it wasn’t a tip and that was the price. I pointed out it was 20% more than the menu price and she lied and said the menus had old prices on.

changing rooms were local leisure centre standard of quality though we did find a nicer changing room away from the pool later on but nobody had told us about that.

Eden Hall is better.

@JulietteHasAGun OMG that’s awful! I stayed at Champneys Tring last year and it was wonderful. Was hoping to replicate the experience a little closer to home at Champneys Springs but that just sounds terrible!

Barkleyspaubles · 04/07/2026 17:06

Ragdale was distinctly average last August. There’s a new Champneys at Buxton.. I haven’t been but I’d like to!

Bjorkdidit · 04/07/2026 17:21

I came on to recommend the Buxton Crescent, even though its more like 2 hours from Coventry, it's really worth the trip if you can't find anything suitable closer. It underwent major refurbishment a few years ago and has since been bought by Champneys.

I've heard good things about Nirvana near Reading which is slightly closed to you and is on my list, if I'm ever down that way.

Wishitwasstraightforward · 04/07/2026 17:31

I have been to all of the spas mentioned except Nivarna and my own experience is that none compare to Ragdale Hall. I’ve been several times as a day spa guest and it is wonderful.

If you can push to an hour and a half. Aquasana in Sherwood Forest centre parks is incredible. Fabulous location. Lots of inside and outside spaces, woods all around, a pool in the centre of the building etc. it's blooming awesome

You genuinely couldn’t pay me to go back.

Nirvana is terrific if it’s within reach for you. I was there on Monday and it felt busy ish, but there was no difficulty getting a seat anywhere. Lots of lovely pools including one outside option. I think my favourite was the Dead Sea salt pool. I would probably aim to go midweek based on my experience.

whiteroseredrose · 04/07/2026 18:19

Another recommendation for Ragdale Hall. It’s entirely about the spa rather than an hotel with an add on.

Covsouth · 04/07/2026 22:27

Thank you everyone, I feel spoilt for choice now. I'll share these with DD and we can decide together 😍

Ragdale hall, without a shadow of a doubt.

thismummydrinksgin · 05/07/2026 10:59

Hoar cross hall is lovely, fairlawns is a nice spa which has recently been renovated. I would choose this over Hoar cross for facilities but hoar cross has the nicer grounds.

PermanentTemporary · 05/07/2026 11:17

For a simpler experience but with great food, the Thames Lido in Reading is absolutely joyous. It just has one pool and a hot tub, along with steam room and sauna.

Bath Thermae Spa is probably within reach, the rooftop pool is so special but the food is a bit meh. I tend to find it a bit crowded but it’s Bath so is usually part of a lovely trip.

FlipFlopZebra · 10/07/2026 19:26

Not sure I’d there is a center parcs in the midlands but our local Aqua Sana never fails so many choices of steam rooms and saunas.

Edited to add googled says nearest center parcs is 1hr 2m away from Coventry so could be an option :)
