How many clothes do you own and actually wear regularly?

I have so many clothes. I only wear a small percentage of them. I have sorted out lots of stuff to sell on Vinted/Give to charity shop. This is the year that I finally get shot of all the stuff that I don't fit into, all the stuff that is uncomfortable, all the stuff that just doesn't look right......

Just wondering really how many of each item does the average person own? I don't suppose there is such a thing as an average person but hit me with your answers.

How many of the following do you own and do you wear everyting in your wardrobe?

Dresses
Skirts
Jeans
joggers
smart trousers
nice tops
t shirts
shorts
Jumpers

Anything else

I have a very small number of clothes and wear them all.
This is helped by only wearing a limited number of colors. In the summer, I only wear navy, white, and red, and very very occasionally pink. And only tan accessories. So everything goes with everything else.
In the winter, I only wear navy, white, duck egg blue, red, burgundy and pink. And all accessories are either navy, burgundy, or chocolate brown. Everything goes.
For example, I have five t-shirts: three navy, two white, three dresses: one white, one navy, one red.
For coats, I have one navy wool coat, one duck egg blue wool coat, one navy trench coat, one navy short spring jacket. And that's it.
For special occasions, I have one dress suitable for black tie (it's a silk Carolina Herrera long dress) and one suitable for day-time events (from Zimmerman). I probably buy a new one of these every two to three years, or if I have a very special occasion.
I spend an awful lot on each item and only shop with from a list, if I shop at all. I more frequently have a personal shopper who I've worked with for years find the items we agree I need. This year, for example, for summer, I only needed a casual white skirt and I wanted (but didn't need) a day-time navy dress. I asked my personal shopper to source them and that's all I bought. The navy dress is this one: thisisthegreat.com/collections/dresses/products/the-day-break-dress-navy
I HATE having a crowded wardrobe filled with things that aren't quite right. I am ruthless about what goes in my wardrobe.

I think that sounds really sensible and admirable @Ruthietuthie Like a proper grown up. But I know I would get so bored and act like a recalcitrant teenager if I had that system. Thank god we are all different eh?

I spent two days last week gathering one large box and four bags of clothes (mine and DD's).

It is apparent that I've been stockpiling black work trews, but I'm keeping four.
Work trousers - 4 black, 2 grey, various styles
Dresses - 4
Blouses / shirts - 15 (includes long and short sleeved and sleeveless)
T-shirts - 15
Cardigans of various levels of casual/ smart - 10
Sweatshirts/ hoodies - 5
Sweatpants/ joggers - 6
Jeans - 8
Casual light jackets (spring, summer, autumn) - 3
Coats - 3 (one for funerals and winter formal events)
Formal / dressy jackets - 6
Jackets for cold weather - 5, various levels of warmth and water repellence
Fleeces - 2
Sweaters - 6

@Ruthietuthie
My clothes colours have been described by my DCs as the colours of a really brutal shipping forecast for sea areas South East Iceland, Rockwall, Malin, and Hebrides - shades of gray, black, petrol blue, dark burgundy, dark green, gray-blue, blue-gray, gray-green, black-navy, navy-black, charcoal, icy white, khaki, and very pale blue.

@mathanxiety, I can imagine your color palette exactly. It would be absolutely beautiful.

@BitOutOfPractice, I agree - it is good that we are all different. I have a friend who has so many clothes, many of them thrifted, and she gets so much pleasure from putting together outfits. And she always looks great.
My very limited, very "sensible" approach came from feeling tired of constantly browsing and shopping. I was always looking, always ordering things, yet still felt I wasn't "done." I also had clothes in my wardrobe that I had bought as "outside my comfort zone" but I didn't actually wear them. Now, once I have found the missing pieces for each season (for example, for winter, I already know that all I need is one pair of shoes and one bag plus some new underwear), there is no longer any point to look. So, when I want to browse, I just tell myself that there isn't any point as I am not doing any more shopping until the next big season change and I am not buying anything that isn't on my list. It helps reduce the noise.

I’m strict about culling clothes when I stop liking or wearing them. I charity shop/Vinted stuff a couple of times a year, before replacing. And I no longer keep things for years thinking I might wear them one day.
I still have a lot of clothes, but get good wear of them.

Winter clothes currently packed away.

Summer dresses - 10
Summer skirts - 4
Shorts - 3
Jeans - 6
Trousers (smart, mainly for work) - 6
Trousers (casual) - 4
Light cardigans - 4
Blazers - 5
Silk blouses for work - 8
Loads of tee shirts and tops! 40?
3 x gym outfits
4 x swimsuits

Still working on shoes! Have too many…

2 coats ! I have 19 that i can think of but they are spread over 3 houses.

TBF, I stretch the definition to suit myself. Two winter coats, two waterproof jackets, two lightweight jackets for spring/autumn.... I do have more of some things, but I'm not replacing them when they wear out.

Yes I can see that, I really can. If shopping becomes a chore and another job to do then it’s time to reassess how you do it. I can totally get it and I bet you always look beautifully put together!
