I need a really comfy pair of walking sandals for sightseeing days on holiday. Any suggestions would be welcome please, hoping for v v comfy but not too old fashioned.

I've just ordered the most ugly skechers sandals ever so I'm not the person to ask 🤣

NotMeNoNo · 29/06/2026 16:28

How do you want to look?
Trekker/Gap year = Teva
All purpose casual= Fit flop or Birkenstock
Dainty and stylish= basically this is the Holy grail. But depends on your idea of style.
Clumpy and stylish= DM sandals

There's no getting away from the fact that if you want really comfortable sandals you have probably reached the age where your feet wont let you get away with style over comfort any more. Sorry!

Teva, comfy as and I've just ordered my 2nd pair

exox · 29/06/2026 16:35

I’m living in my Vivobarefoot Tracker Ora sandals. Incredibly comfortable but not the most stylish! I much prefer them to Birkies because they don’t slide around and my feet can relax in them.

My Merry People ones are good so far (I also have Keen for more serious hiking).

Yeah defo need comfort over style for at least daytime. I have quite a few pairs of fit flops as I like a chunky sole because I’m short so like a little boost but also need the arch support but my feet and legs were still a bit achy when we were away at Easter.

Have a look at Merell hiking sandals, super comfortable and great support. I'm on my third pair after wearing out 2 pairs already

catteabook · 29/06/2026 17:23

teva are the only sandals I’m able to walk in all day sightseeing, in heat and remain comfortable. I’m going interailing later in the year and they will be my main footwear for this.
i much prefer the doc marten aesthetic and own a couple of pairs of DM sandals and they don’t come anywhere close to the Tevas for comfort.

I have the Teva classics in black, not exactly stylish but inoffensive IMO

Ecco

FlorenceBlack · 29/06/2026 21:19

I’ve got ancient Tevas and a couple of newer pairs too, they seem to last forever. There’s definitely a difference with arch support in the various styles so might be something to bear in mind.

Massivescreen · 29/06/2026 21:26

I actually find my Saltwater sandals v comfy and can walk around in them all day even though they are completely flat.

Creamice · 29/06/2026 22:10

Came here to say Saltwater. But I have the SunSan (Swimmer) ones which are so comfortable with a cushioned sole.

I resisted for a long time but finally gave in to some Teva Originals in rainbow colours a few years ago and they’re super comfy regardless of how hot it gets or how much I walk. I wouldn’t use them for hiking etc (I’d want more support) but they’re great for normal walking around on holidays. I’m taking them with me when I go away on hols this week as I’ll be hopping in and out of small boats/water constantly so the Tevas are perfect.

Misslizzie96 · 09/07/2026 16:20

Thanks for all the suggestions above, I wanted a chunky sole as I’m short so ended up getting Geox Flextride which are a bit more dressy as they are metallic and also an Ecco pair and they are both sooo comfy.

Hotter tourist sandals- aptly named! They’re on sale at the moment.
