It makes me laugh how naive men can be . My best friend told her new husband that she was just going out for her Botox /filled appointment.. she is also naive and assumed everyone knew that this is standard beauty regime amongst middle class (by that I mean those who can afford it) .. his response was standard .. why ? You don’t kneed it ! You look fantastic… ummm yes - well perhaps that’s because I’ve had ‘help’ for 8years !!

It's not standard though. I could afford it but I'd rather have my natural face without fillers and botox.

And no matter how many people say you can't tell if someone has botox you definitely can.

i personally think having Botox is one of the best beauty treatments you can do. It makes you look fresher, younger and make up goes on better. I love it. It wears off after 3-4 months. You’ll never look back once you've had it. I suspect your husband is getting confused with filler . Go for it….. just make sure you use a medical professional for the treatment (nurse, doc, dentist)

But once you start don’t you have to keep going? Or is that fillers

Go for it. If you had not told him he would not even have noticed. It’s a game changer

I’m not so sure about this!
Day 6 and my forehead is smoother but my bruise is getting bigger not smaller.
I have hooded eyes and it’s subtle but they definitely have been made worse by this not better. Applying eye shadow and mascara is more difficult.
eek- what have I done?!?!?!

You do need to give it 2 weeks for full effect, especially the first time. Have they booked you in for a check after 2 weeks?

You've probably read the internet, freaked about about possible side effects like hooded eyes and, because you're particular about how you look (hence botox, in the first place), made yourself worry.

Just theory.

As many pp I think men in general when they hear Botox or fillers they think celebrities and assume you’re going to walk around all looking the same. If it’s well done it just makes you look “refreshed” if that makes sense!

lady725516 · 06/07/2026 15:27

What areas did you get the Botox? You can get some in your eyebrows to lift your hooded lids. I get mine done and my eyes look ‘naturally’ more opened.

Don’t tell your husband. Men never notice things like Botox anyway!

They do! Saw a mum we'd not seen since nursery the other day, and all the men in the group as well as the women noticed it straight away, before the woman talked it about it herself.
Just saying it's not necessarily true one sex notice more than the other.

honeylulu · 06/07/2026 15:55

Day 6 is too early for the botox itself to have taken effect. It will kick in about 2-3 weeks after. (When i have mine done I've always forgotten about it by then and suddenly look in the mirror and think hey looking good today ... then I realise).

What you're seeing now is some bruising/swelling around the site which will go.

Where exactly did you have it done? I had my frown lines done and my lady suggested small amounts (there was some of the dose left) along my eyebrow line to pull them up as I also have hooded eyelids. I was reticent because I didn't want to have that surprised look but I was really pleased. It just makes my eyes look more open and ... less hooded!

My husband didn't like the idea of me having it done but tough luck, he doesn't get a say. He's admitted since he thinks it looks good and very natural, not like some of the scary overdone botox faces you see.

I believe she means it looks natural. If you don't go over board it just takes the edge off rather than freezing your face.
For me after a very stressful time I had permanent 11's. I started botox and now, even when its worn off, they've gone. Before I looked angry/upset all the time as they were just there. I feel better about myself and my colleagues who I am in charge of no longer think I'm pissed at them all the time.

Thank you for explaining that. Maybe I need some. I do look annoyed at everyone these days!!!

My advice is dont tell your husband and certainly dont listen to him!

Ive been having it done very subtly and occasionally for ten years now.

I dont have frozen mask face/glacial or no expression etc - REALLY.

My practitioner keeps it very natural.

It takes a while to take effect so if you get home and he starts on about it you'll know he's just saying it!

Go for it, it's really very minor, if you don't like it, it wears off (you will!)

I would definitely have botox again if I could, but I can't.

I had it about 4yrs ago now, not too much, just a little in my forehead. But it migrated to my right eye and paralysed by eyelid. I looked like I was permanently winking. I went back to the professional, and she put a little more in certain areas to lift the eye lid, but nothing worked. Took about 4 weeks for my eye to go back to normal.

I would imagine that is just a poor injector. If you found someone locally who is experienced you will have a different experience. My injector has been doing the job for decades and he was a GP before. He is amazing.

Maybe, but she was a licensed professional. When I showed her the reaction to my eyelid she was shocked and said she hadn't seen it before. Tried to rectify it, couldn't, and ended up giving me my money back.
