Summer work dress suggestions HELP

Hi everyone, I’d really like a nice, light for summer, everyday dress that I can also wear to work.
The problem is that I’m 5’2, size 12-14 with hips and boobs. Anything with ‘extra’ fabric just swamps me.

What should I be looking for and do you have any suggestions? Thanks.

Probably not mudi. M&S have loads of summer dresses in cotton. I think cotton is best. There’s ones at Seasalt if you like their prints or Boden.

Ignore “mudi” - I had meant midi! However having had a quick look at m&S, it’s midi or mini! I’ve looked at midi for you and all these are suitable for work. They might be a bit long but they are under £40 so you could get a local tailor to take them up. Dry cleaning shops often have this service. The green or black gingham are the same dress but they are good for this summer.

I just got a few work dresses from new look of all places, I haven't shopped there for years but the one near work had some dresses in the window that caught my eye. Very light fabric midi length and not low cut (important in my line of work).
This one I've got in a couple of colours as it was so cheap!

The Joy one is like my tablecloth. I think a smaller gingham is more flattering, There are so many good cotton dresses around at the moment at good prices.

I have a smaller gingham maxi skirt. That’s the thing though when I google there’s not many trendy 100% cotton dresses. Or from my search anyway.

@Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain There’s loads at M&S. It’s a very good site to start looking. Easy to wear and good value.

I like the gingham ones, I have a gingham dress that I wear both to work and outside of work.

The ones suggested with buttons might not work as OP said about her boobs - I can't wear anything with buttons down the front unless it's specifically made for curves or it's an oversized fit.

Seasalt - their chapelle dresses especially are lovely

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 28/06/2026 19:58

@SleepyTeaZzz Yes, boobs get in the way, I have shares in safety pins. Some cuts are more generous than others though.
