I have a shawl just like that one, I have absolutely no idea where I bought it but it was from an antique shop somewhere. Have a look on Etsy and eBay, I will go and browse for you now.

I’d like to know too.

It's hard to tell from the image, but it's not dissimilar to an antique Kashmiri shawl. There are also modern versions available - possibly the easier option as the originals are usually several hundred pounds or more if they're in good condition.

Assuming this one is genuine wool, something like this? Beware the viscose/imitation wool or cashmere versions.

It looks like a woven wool scarf.
Wool silk Italian scarf £195
One hundred stars £36 not wool but the boho garden looks pretty close. I have a couple of scarves by them and they wash and wear beautifully.

Scarves

Our large scarves make the perfect accessory for any season. The lightweight scarves can be worn as a delicate cover up during the summer months, or layered over a dress in the winter months.

A kashmiri shawl would have been a very valuable and fashionable accessory in Jane Austen’s time. That’s definitely what it is.

I love a shawl and I've bought some amazing ones on vinted before.

You've just got to trawl etsy and vinted OP and you will find the one.

Ah I love a shawl too. I loved it when pashminas were really in fashion. Are they due a come back? I’m not very fashionable!

Try gift shops for National Trust properties or somewhere like Kew Gardens. They often have this type of thing in stock - can’t vouch for the price though!

Edited to add - Jane Austen online gift shop sometimes stocks them

What would be wrong with cashmere, please?

MabelAnderson · 27/06/2026 15:42

Yes, as pps have mentioned, you want a Kashmiri shawl. That’s what mine is. I looked , there are a few on Etsy but not with the same small flower placement. They do come up though, if you keep hunting. It’s more common to see them now with paisley motifs and larger areas of pattern but the older ones have smaller floral details sometimes.

Nothing - I meant viscose or other imitation versions of either wool or cashmere shawls. Lots of the cheaper ones arent wool/cashmere, they're manmade fabrics.
