Wide feet, high instep AND an orthotic. Where do you shop for summer shoes???

Ive got wide feet, size 8 with a high instep AND an orthotic. Where do you shop for summer shoes???

im seriously considering drag shoes! I can only find things for £100 that look suitable - something nearer £40 is more my budget.

any links would be amazing thank you! (And please don’t point me to the website called Wide Fit Shoes - they seem to think everyone with problem feet is 90! )

Have you looked on Vinted ? New stuff available as well as worn.

Tiredalwaystired · Today 12:54

I would like some tried and tested brands. Most of what I buy ends up getting sent back so looking for some specifics that work if possible. But thank you for taking your time to reply!

Joya and Gabor?

Neveranynamesleft · Today 13:22

If you google " best shoes for size 8 orthotic with a high instep " you should be given suitable brands that you can look into and see which you think will be good for you. Once you know the best brand for you, could look for it on Vinted.

TBH I’ve given up. I need a properly structured shoe, otherwise I just spill over the orthotic, or step right out of the shoe. The only sandals I can wear are Birkenstocks, as their footbed gives similar support to my prescription orthotics. But when I have a plantar fasciitis flare up the Birkenstock footbed is too hard. So this summer I’m in trainers. Decathlon’s cheapest actually work really well with my orthotics, plus they are machine washable.

I wear Birkenstocks too. The sandals and their shoes / trainers. I’m not sure how I would manage if I needed more formal shoes, but they are smart enough for most situation

CMOTDibbler · Today 14:53

Sole Bliss from Vinted. They are expensive, but I have wasted so much money on shoes I can't wear that they are worth every penny. I have wide, high feet and custom insoles too. I also have some gold Vionic trainers I got on Vinted which work nicely

lljp · Today 15:06

Birkenstock if I don’t need to walk any distance. If I need to walk fitville trainers or something from that shop for 90 year olds 🤦‍♀️

Thanks but to date this tactic has not worked. And ones that show up are over the price range or not actually that wide (eg New Look) Hence asking real people for their experience.

I've also given up. It's walking shoes all year round for me 😞

You have just described my feet exactly. The only sandals I have ever had that fit me and are comfortable are the Wolky Celine XW. Ruinously expensive, but literally the only sandals that are wide enough and can also accommodate an orthotic, and don't look totally hideous.

Birkenstocks or trainers for me (size 6 very wide feet, high instep, needs arch support and has very narrow heels). But I can wear things like loafers or a kitten heel without orthotics for the odd day for special occasions.

My issue with orthotics is that in any shoes apart from trainers and boots the added height of the orthotics with my narrow heels mean the shoes flap off me, even lace-ups.

Overshareswhendrunk · Today 17:45

I have very wide, size 9 feet and in the winter have resorted to wearing mens boots. Last year I discovered Reiker and have spent many happy hours in their shop trying on, and subsequently buying, womens shoes. I've even tried on some that are too big which has never happened to me before. I don't use orthotics so can't really comment on whether Reiker shoes would work for you but it's definitely worth a try. Good luck!

BridgetJonesV2 · Today 17:48

My feet are very similar.

My chiropodist recommended Joya and they're like walking on air. I've also got ones from Fitflop and Vionic but the widths can be very variable.

Sole Bliss are very good, and Sargasso & Grey for occasion shoes.

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · Today 17:50

Hobibear from Amazon are affordable.

CF4 · Today 17:53

I get mine from yours. I’m only a size 6 though but EEE wide. With high arch and also orthotic too.

bumptybum · Today 17:53

I really would suggest that if you can find a way to stretch your budget getting a really decent pair for summer is something that’s worth stretching for

Obviously, if you can’t afford it, you can’t afford it. But if it’s a matter of you could if you forwent one or two other things or you could but you just really don’t want to spend that sort of money I would urge you to increase your budget because whatever you buy will last much longer and be better value in the long run.

Summer sandals made of cheap synthetics that come in under £40 are going to rub horribly. They are not going to mould to your feet and they are likely going to cause blisters through sweat and rubbing and they are unlikely to last.

Aparecium · Today 17:57

I have just googled 'Sandals with removable insoles UK' and a shoeshop came up that offers just that ! Rogerson. And many come in a wide fitting . Never heard of them - may be worth a look? I had no idea that such a thing existed.

Try https://www.pavers.co.uk/

I'm in Ireland and use the Irish site but they are my favourite shoe site since last year. Very comfortable and properly wide unlike some of the more fashion brands.

New Look do wide fit. Evans do wide fit and extra wide fit. Hotter also do wide fit.

Britneyfan · Today 18:11

Following this thread cos I have the same issue. I don’t have orthotics though, or rather I do but have pretty much given up on being able to wear them in summer unless wearing a closed toe type shoe. I also have plantar fasciitis and my high instep collapsed in childbirth into flat feet (and made my feel go up a size argh) but I still need the arch support if possible. I have pretty much worn Sketchers in winter and Birkenstocks in summer for years. The EVA foam Birkenstocks are lighter and bouncier (and usually cheaper) and have solved that heavy too-solid sole issue that a pp describes for me. Oh yes and I found some wedge heels from Gabor that I can cope with for a few hours if I really have to get dressed up!

Would you mind sharing a look to the Decathlon model that works for you?
