Ive got wide feet, size 8 with a high instep AND an orthotic. Where do you shop for summer shoes???

im seriously considering drag shoes! I can only find things for £100 that look suitable - something nearer £40 is more my budget.

any links would be amazing thank you! (And please don’t point me to the website called Wide Fit Shoes - they seem to think everyone with problem feet is 90! )

Im a half size EE and love shoes so I mostly go on ebay for mine. I put my exact size in and usually manage to get my exact size half price so Ive had clarkes, fitville, hotter, van dal, birkenstock and some really gorgeous shoes either new or worn once for the kind of price you are looking at.
They change the stock all the time so if there is nothing this week there will be next week.
The only draw back is you cant try them on.
You can ask the seller if the existing insole comes out so you can put yours in. They are usually very helpful.

knottywig · 21/06/2026 18:54

I have small wide feet and wear an orthotic for Achilles and I over pronate. . Sandals I use Birkenstocks, without orthotic- but can’t wear these more than a day at a time. I have ugly new balance trainers with orthotic for walking. I have vans (bought in sale) with orthotic for short evenings out/not much walking. Sorry- all pricey options and none particularly attractive!

Fitflops are excellent. The trainers are really good..

ChocoChocoLatte · 21/06/2026 19:09

Fit flop - hop on Vinted, there are a few size 8s on there just now

Lilyspickled · 21/06/2026 19:10

Have you looked at Hotter, they have a sale on, and price are starting at £29. They do wide fit. I have wide feet, and a high instep, so I wear boat shoes or loafers.

Sadly these are still too narrow. Otherwise they would be perfect.

Edited

Too narrow for me Sadly. Fine without an orthotic but not once it is inserted.

Size 8 (probably 8.5 truthfully), wide feet and the front (bunions) narrow at the heel, had plantar fasciitis and I will only wear vegan shoes for ethical reasons so I’m a bit of a nightmare 😂 I find new look sandals are great, they do extra wide as well as wide. Otherwise tevas as they adjust well and sketchers in the wide fit style. Boots from ‘love shoes’. I’ve given up on heels or traditional work shoes as we seem to get away with trainers now.

SheSellSeaShells · 21/06/2026 20:05

I have charcot marie tooth. So wide feet, high instep, terrible shaped feet basically, (but only size 4 feet). I shop sketchers, some crocs as so wide, simply be. I also have sandals from heavenly feet, their birkinstock type ones are very comfortable!

Concernedparent101511 · 21/06/2026 20:10

Hi I have extra wide feet and so many problems (peroneal tendonitis and knee problems). I have been on a hunt for shoes and have spent so much money on different shoes and them not working/being comfortable over the past year.
The best brands I have found are..
everyday wear - Newbalance trainers (wide fit) (you have to choose a stability shoe I have the 860)
Workwear/sandals - I use hotter extra wide fit, these are one of the most comfortable

Changeisstillpossible · 21/06/2026 20:11

Similar issues here. I have Brooks trainers.

Sargasso and Grey seemed so promising but ended up hurting my feet - they weren't deep enough.

I have an old pair of wedge Skechers sandals that are comfy. Need to replace but am now concerned about Skechers ethics.

Helpful to know about Fitflop - was wondering about them but I think they are probably too narrow for me as have seriously wide feet since childhood - off the width scale in Clarks shoes as a kid.

Sorry that's much help, OP!

Changeisstillpossible · 21/06/2026 20:11

*not much help

Concernedparent101511 · 21/06/2026 20:14

Sorry forgot to mention Skechers extra wide fit they have a removable insole to add orthotics. And with the hotter shoes you have to try a few different models to find which is most comfortable for you.
The best thing I found is to ask chat GPT to help you find a shoe, explaining your issues, orthotics etc.

If you google " best shoes for size 8 orthotic with a high instep " you should be given suitable brands that you can look into and see which you think will be good for you. Once you know the best brand for you, could look for it on Vinted.

If only it were that easy. Results for shopping-related terms like that are gamed to oblivion, and in any case it is really hard to tell which brands offer genuinely good care for your feet and which are just well marketed -unless you speak to a few real people.
I've just been searching endlessly for an affordable walking-type sandal that offers excellent arch suppor for people with high insteps, and it isn't straightforward. In the end I odered these, https://www.amazon.co.uk/KuaiLu-Breathable-Comfortable-Fisherman-Fasciitis/dp/B0GVWC8Q3M/?th=1&psc=1

I have size 9 feet although my feet are narrow. I struggle to find shoes as any pair I do find in a 9 seems to be wide fitting which means the shoes are loose fitting at the side. It’s also a problem if I buy boots because manufacturers seem to think if you have big feet then your legs must be chunky which mine are not! New look used to have some nice shoes but they seemed to stop doing bigger sizes. I live in trainers now and even then I buy men’s trainers as they seem to be a better fit.

Were these any good

MyThreeWords · 21/06/2026 20:27

They haven't arrived yet, @Concernedparent101511 . The reviews claim that the arch support is very good, but I also have the OP's wide feet and I'm a bit uncertain there. They still seem £££ to me, but loads less than the similar-seeming Keen sandals that I like, so worth a punt.

Littleorangeonaplate · 21/06/2026 20:27

Ecco shoes do some styles in a wide fitting. Birkenstocks and fitflop also are brilliant.

This is true new look is pretty good for wide fitting shoes. Id forgotten about them.

Chickadeeinme · 21/06/2026 20:39

I have wide feet and a high instep. They are horrendously expensive but I wear Finn Comforts because they are so comfortable. They last for years and years - I’m still wearing some I got ten years ago.

waltzingparrot · 21/06/2026 20:42

Pavers are definitely doing some younger styles now. Well, for 30+. Reasonable prices.

mdinbc · 21/06/2026 20:43

Check where you got your orthotics fitted; they will often have a catalogue of shoes available that will accept your orthotic (the sole slips out of the shoe and your orthotic sole goes in). My DH ordered sandals with his custom orthotic built in. Yes, they were expensive, but well worth the expense.

heaveho · 21/06/2026 20:59

Next?
Long Tall Sally?
Doc Martens?

Nerdippy · 21/06/2026 21:03

I've been buying Strive shoes, boots, slippers and sandals ever since I was suffering with plantar fasciitis about 8 years ago. Also, Vionic shoes/sandals are highly recommended though I don't have any of these at the moment. No need for an insert, the shoes come with a foot bed that supports the arch. Search on their websites to find local stockists.

Vionic, strive. Not the most trendy but not too old lady. Sometimes Vinted nicer than current stock. Make sure you buy wide though.
