Pls help me judge. I asked for cool toned balayage and this is what I ended up. I wanted a root smudge and that painted/brush stroke effect. Instead I feel like I have 90s Highlights. AIBU? Is this balayage? I plan to ask hairdresser to fix it. What would I ask for? I feel the hairdresser and I have a very different concept of what Balayage is. AIBU. Pls help😪 so sad, paid so much money for this

What was your colour before? Tbh it doesn't really look like there are highlights or balayage.
Did you have foils?
What was your hair like before?
Sorry you are not happy. Could you go back and ask them to put it right?

you definitely don’t have 90s highlights. it’s very even colour all over from what i can see in that picture. do you have a before picture?

NewDogOwner · 20/06/2026 00:18

Hair looks lovely and very shiny but can't seen any colour like hightights/ balayage. Bite the bullet and phone up and gently say you didn't get what you asked for and are disappointed and want it fixed. I've had to do this.

Pixi365 · 20/06/2026 00:27

Tbf I think for a first time it’s not bad can see it’s lighter in the ends and not stripes. I’ve had three so far one was like a 90’s highlights which then made the two further attempts so hard for the hairdressers, been to three spent over £700 I now don’t know what I have apart from mostly yellow hair 😅 I think no one ever gets the balayage we ask for. Unless you see some brilliant before and after from the hairdresser I would maybe not even ask they all say they can do it and yet they carnt unfortunately. Raise it with your hairdresser if your unhappy though and they may try and fix it for free (give you what you wanted or atleast try a second attempt) or refund you.

Here is a pic of the before, you can see I have darker roots and lighter ends. Just feel I got an over all lighter colour, and not the classic balyage effect. I really hate it, plus I feel it's looks brassy which is the very thing I wanted to avoid. This look is just not me. What can I ask the hairdresser for to cool it down. I also hate the highlights starting from the crown. Ah so sad and I'm attending a big family wedding next staturday, I look wretched and washed out😥

Do you have a better picture? I can’t see any balayage / highlights / different colour at all. Looks very much an all over same colour to me, which does look brassy.

It looks a lovely colour but it looks same all over colour to me.

BillieWiper · 20/06/2026 16:42

It doesn't look balyage but it looks nice. Idk if you wanted it lighter? You can't really see any obvious highlights but the very bottom bit looks lighter.

If you're unhappy you can ask them to rectify it. They'd rather that than lose you as a client. But if you don't trust them then I guess ask for a more senior stylist?

Dizzydrizzy · 20/06/2026 16:46

The before was better, that’s isn’t balayage. Did you tell her you weren’t happy ( I hate doing that but u do it now if needed) I would ask for it to be corrected

NerdyBird · 20/06/2026 16:49

That doesn’t look like balayage at all, more like lighter all over with perhaps very slightly lighter ends. Did they say there might be any difficulties in achieving what you wanted?

dudsville · 20/06/2026 19:08

Your before Pic really is best. I would gradually aim to get back to that, but the 1st pic looks very nice.

I’ll be honest, I’m struggling to find why you’re upset. It’s gorgeous. The other pics you provided are fab.

go shop and get the purple shampoo will take the brassy away (I can’t see brassy) think it’s called a touch of silver.

Moonandstarsandsun · Yesterday 04:56

Doesn’t look like balyage but does look gorgeous

Sandysandybeaches · Yesterday 08:17

It looks lovely and very natural, I can’t see why you are upset? Your ‘before’ photo looks lovely too though.
