Do not buy from 'Made By Jessica'!

I bought two dresses online (£39 each) from what I thought was a UK-based boutique after a recommendation on a thread on MN. The website shows a pregnant woman, and says that 'Jessica' is closing her boutique due to the imminent arrival of her baby and is selling off stock at half price. The OP said about how much she loved the shop, etc.
Alarm bells should have rung when they ask for £4.99 insurance (to send a parcel from Surrey?). Also because there was no description of the fabric content given, only that it was a 'light and airy summer fabric'. They took a long time to arrive (direct from China?) and came today. The material is almost plastic, and they are a heavy weight, huge, shoddily made, with no labels (fabric content, washing instructions, brand) apart from 'Medium'.
Looking at Trustpilot, lots of people have the same story. They are Hong Kong based. There does not seem to be a UK store. 'Made by Jessica' my arse. They promise easy returns and refunds, but I don't hold out much hope, and it will cost a fortune to send them back to China. But will update.

Have been browsing online this morning for a specific item and bombarded with more of these scam sites

It's frightening isn't it . How susceptible we are to a bogus title . The sad thing is how awful the people are who prey on our susceptibility! If I were working I would have laughed my stupidity off but surviving on a state pension makes every penny precious...like they used to be ... I don't want other people to have to write off money wasted on unscrupulous thieving fatherless people on any part of the planet !!! I hope not to write off my pension spent on a rag . My bank actually encouraged me to pay the postage and return the item but being £40 down with tat in its place is bad enough without increasing my losses to nearer 60 !

I phoned the credit card company today and they are going to get the 30% back for me (fingers crossed!). I had to forward a few emails to them, proving I'd accepted MadeByJessica's offer but they delayed and eventually said I'd run out of time. So not the 100% refund I'd wanted, but for that I'd have to send the goods back. I accept I can't keep the crap goods and have a refund.

I too have been SCAMMED by MADE BY JESSICA.

I purchased two dresses thinking they came from the UK. They took ages to arrive and actually came from China. They are absolutely awful quality (almost plastic). I contacted them on the day they arrived with me to say I wished to return them (7th July 2026) and have received numerous stalling emails requesting ridiculous information (eg photo of the dress being worn, measurements of the dress).

To date (23rd August 2026) I have STILL NOT RECEIVED ANY REFUND.

Firstly go to your bank and dispute the transaction . Secondly go on to whop.com and ask for help. Then push like mad . Your bank will want to know everything that happened...not to do with quality but how the site showed itself to be in London , how the purchase took such a long time to arrive , how attempting to start the refund process you could not phone as the number has been disconnected , so you emailed, they then conveniently delayed replying to go past the request a refund return postage time slot that they insist on . How the sizing is not as described .how the item could not be tried on because it was so screwed up . How the item had to be returned to USA ...why ?
With WHOP.COM the AI is very easy to use just type as though you are talking to a friend . It will put in a complaint and so long as you upload as much as you can , price variance with other sites , photographs of the item showing all things wrong . It took a couple of weeks but push !!!!!GOOD LUCK

The refund I got came from WHOP not made by jessica.

I too got scammed from a deal on MN it was from On Buy called K18 - or similar (hair mask) and it was awful- smelt like pva glue and went tacky on my hair.

There are loads of online shops like this now. The telltale signs are the clothes look really nice - natural fabrics, lovely basic but well-cut designs (why more actual legit shops can’t just do this I don’t know!) it’s like they know exactly what I want as a middle class older woman who wants to avoid polyester - I guess because that target market is more likely to have some money and may be less scam-aware.

Secondly, the clothes may come in different colourways but it will be the same photo with the colour changed. Thirdly, Google image search the pic and it will probably come up in multiple other places and also appear on Amazon. Then you know it’s not some nice boutique but mass-produced tat.

I now automatically suspect something if I see items that look lovely at a great price, and do the checks.

One that I keep getting is some lovely old couple who are retiring from their jewellery business after 40 years so giving away all their stock for free.

A diamond ring that used to be £200 (as though that's a realistic price to start with!) - free, just pay for postage.

If anyone falls for this, I'm afraid they only have themselves to blame. You know - if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
