I’m going to a watching beginning of August and totally clueless what to wear. I am perimenopausal so going through that unsure lost my way feeling.

Im 52, size 12 hourglass. My boobs are huge 34h so needs to flatter those. I don’t particularly like my upper arms either. To add to the mix I’m short 5’2.

i don’t like floral could possibly do an abstract print at a push. My best colours are pinks, blue browns and some dark purples. I had my colours done and I’m a sweet pea summer of that helps.

my normal style is pretty plain, classic but modern. Love Reiss although a bit pricey for 1 day but that kind of styling.

I feel I need to look amazing as I’m meeting my partners friends for the first time (some of them) some are a bit judgey as my partner was the original bachelor in their group and I know I’m being judged for being with him. They are an odd group to get into!

is a hat or fascinator still worn? I’ve not been to a wedding for 25 years!!

Budget, Sweetie …

PadamPadamPDoom · 14/06/2026 10:37

(Reiss is a bit elastic as a price reference.)

and why does it have to be "for 1 day but that kind of styling"

I never buy one day only outfits.

TwoHoots74 · 14/06/2026 10:56

Ideally I’d prefer £150 or under so not a huge budget. The reason I said it’s one day wear almost as I don’t go to places that require dressing up. I’m more smart casual.

Sorry I’m a little clueless. It’s a long time since I’ve been to a wedding and just not sure of what people wear. And I am in this weird peri stage where I feel I’ve lost all confidence and possibly verging on the I don’t want to leave the house, in denial about mild depression and self worth but that’s a whole other thread!

People wear all sorts of things to weddings.
There seem to be 2 basic camps of buy a one off "occasion dress" as cheaply as possible or buy the best you can afford and like , whether or not it's an "occasion dress", that works for your life that you can rewear. I'm firmly in the latter camp.

Just because Plűmo has been referred to this morning on your budget I'd go for these. Floral but abstract and I'd wear them often afterwards - pub, lunch, dinner, anywhere I wanted to wear a pretty dress.

Or these

Again these are not one off dresses. Someone will be along shortly to tell you these aren't formal enough for a wedding.

I’d consider a pale pink suit with a nice blouse! That way you’d get more wear out of the item you buy as you can use the trousers and blazer separately.

PadamPadamPDoom · 14/06/2026 12:04

Have you looked at Kemi Telford?

Most of the dresses are above your stated budget - but there’ll be a sale between now and the wedding. There are so many that might suit you - this is just an example (and definitely not just for one day):

Kemi Telford and Justine Tabak are excellent suggestions.

princesspadam · 14/06/2026 15:02

What size are you OP?

some of these suggestions are hideous, my 80 year old mother wouldn’t look out of place in some of these

OP posted her size in the opening post.

I don't like all of the suggestions but at least posters have made suggestions. Let's see yours - or is it easier just to rubbish other posters' suggestions?

(and tbh, what your 80 year old mother would wear is beyond irrelevant)

princesspadam · 14/06/2026 16:14

Oh Phaedra who is upsetting you?
are you ok?

sorry I didn’t read the OP post fully, but hey I’m only human and I make mistakes

I actually think it’s highly relevant unless the OP wants to look like an RE teacher or an 80 year old woman

of course I take on board she might whole heartedly be looking for that vibe and if so I’m sure she’ll be happy in one of those

PadamPadamPDoom · 14/06/2026 16:25

😂 Kemi Telford and Colenimo are hipster territory. Justine Tabak is a bit more conservative in style - but her ‘designed and made in the UK’ vibe is very, very cool. Plumo and Palava are both brands worn by women who like individual, rather than mainstream style.

I know nothing about the other brands mentioned here beyond having seen their websites.

Some of us have been trying to suggest clothes that might be incorporated into an everyday wardrobe - rather than satin party frocks that never see the light of day after an Event.

Edit double post. But still waiting for princesspadam's alternatives.

princesspadam · 14/06/2026 17:00

OP what about something from Mango or M&S?

both have some lovely dresses in for summer of varying covered-up-ness

and at £70-£80 for something you could wear every summer I’d go more high street

PadamPadamPDoom · 14/06/2026 17:13

Obviously it’s a matter of choice (and finances) but the difference between a £70/80 fresh out or the shop frock and one (carefully chosen) closer to £200 will be quality of fabric and generosity of cut. And those are things that will enable the OP to look noticeably elegant and celebratory - which is presumably what she’s aiming for.

It might not be a literal one time wear but something that’s appropriate and dressy enough for a wedding aren’t worn regularly for the majority of people.

Some of the pink V neck dresses in the Poetry dress sale might suit you. I don't wear, wedding guest dresses, I wear dresses like these with nice shoes. Might not be your taste, but whatever your taste is, wear that kind of dress but with nice shoes and jewelry.

https://www.poetryfashion.co.uk/subcategory-POES-POESDS/sale/dresses-skirts/index.htm?_gl=12k3eie_upMQ.._gs*MQ..&gclid=Cj0KCQjwornRBhCrARIsAON5exF_Z0W2YD0NR4eYjTeUugzJZVA0nsUQdeYTpibUiOhRk7CjJWAeDqwaAhd7EALw_wcB

I couldn’t imagine any of these at a wedding, they are so extremely casual.

Overtheatlantic · 14/06/2026 17:30

I’m surprised at the number of petite REISS dresses that are white or ivory, considering it’s wedding season. And I’m one of the old pharts who eschews wearing white to weddings.

Yes I’ve noticed that too. I don’t really like any of the dresses posted except the mint velvet one but think that will be too long for me being a short arse.
im more a plain dresser really. I can try and link although not sure how.
