New work clothes

I am not stylish or beautiful. I have zero dress sense and live in leggings

however I have secured a new job and need a new ‘work wear wardrobe’ dress code is ‘casual’ but stable for work. I will be customer facing at times but also WFH.

I like the wide leg trouser look. I’m thinking wide leg trouser, fitted nice t shirt, blazer/cardigan type affair. I don wear heels at all. Have a decent walk so want comfortable shoes can wear trainers. I’m thinking like Veja type ones??

im 14/12 bottom and 12/10 top 5’5.

in an ideal world I’d like to sort 5 outfits or so I can wear on rotation.

attached are the sort of thing I like from Pinterest

please can those more stylish than me comment with suggestions and links for what to order and where from. Budget is not massive!

thank you

Invest In Style on Instagram is a similar size & style to your Pinterest pictures. Maybe look through her links & see if her recommendations are for you. They're usually from typically high street stores, often mini capsule wardrobes & she often repeat wears.

BlanklyMyDear · 10/06/2026 20:34

Not massive is too vague in this instance …

I think, to save the world from the unspeakable blandness of your Pinterest board you should probably look at Cos. Good, plain, well designed workwear with just a tad more individuality in each piece.

Link here is to trousers - obviously browse the rest as well. They should have a sale very soon.

Gosh, do you mean to be so rude @BlanklyMyDear or is this normal behaviour for you?
Maybe the op favours a neutral wardrobe. She asked for help not your opinion.

BlanklyMyDear · 10/06/2026 21:12

Don’t be ridiculous! Why would I want to be rude to a blameless stranger on the internet?

And my opinion is my help on a talk forum. The OP can obviously take or leave any suggestion any of us make. But unless she personally designed and handmade every item on the Pinterest boards she shows, I’m certain she can withstand the terrible shock of learning that a stranger thinks she could find similar but more interesting clothes that serve the same purpose.

oustedbymymate · 10/06/2026 21:43

@BlanklyMyDearcheers for confirming as i pointed out in my original post I am not stylish. But will have a look at cos.

was hoping for a few more helpful suggestions.

I mean. The link takes me to a pretty bland page…

not sure I can get on board with androgynous models that appear to have no shape. 🤣

H&M have some good quality trousers but go in store as you can't tell which are cheaper looking online. These are surprisingly nice on: https://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.1324742001.html

I tend to wear a structured top, satin shirt or blazer and rotate a few different styles of trousers. Sometimes a midi shirt dress if it's warm. I'm probably not the most stylish at work but I look ok I think!

Nothungrycat · 10/06/2026 22:24

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a clean, slightly minimalist look. If that's what you feel happy in, I'd visit Uniqlo - either online or in person, depending where you live - where they have t-shirts in a range of fits, some really nice linen or cotton shirts and trousers in a range of styles? As you will see if you look online, they often put these together in different ways which might give you some ideas, eg a boxy shirt with a pair of barrel leg trousers. Nothing is very expensive, and everything is reasonable quality.

petitdonkey · 10/06/2026 22:30

Abercrombie trousers are great and they do just the look you’ve linked in various colours. People rave about Uniqlo too but I haven’t tried them. I do buy Uniqlo merino wool crew necks as my winter work ‘uniform’ and wear with the same type of trouser. In summer I pair them with a blouse or short sleeved knit (a t shirt would be a tad too casual for my workplace).

if I need to be smarter I add a jacket- I search Lk Bennett or Hobbs on vinted.

a really nice leather belt will elevate the trousers in my opinion.

HelenHywater · 10/06/2026 22:30

I agree, I think Uniqlo has most of those clothes. Certainly the trousers.

I started a new job and needed smarter clothes and I kitted myself out at Massimo Dutti and Zara.

Cantonet · 10/06/2026 22:31

Yes, I also agree with Uniqlo.
Brilliant basics & nice trousers.
The Instagram account I mentioned earlier - Invest in Style features a lot of Uniqlo.
Also have a look at Melissa Murrell on Instagram & You Tube for a variety of recommendations.

TheChosenTwo · 10/06/2026 22:35

I dress like pretty much all your pictures for work on the days where I’m just in the office. When I’m meeting clients I might wear some smarter shoes and definitely not a tshirt but generally that’s how I look.
I get trousers from Nobody’s child (in the long length), mint velvet, M&S and Me and Em, tops from a huge variety of places but usually covered with long sleeves of some kind too.
You can look on vinted while you’re trying a few things out - well, you can buy everything from there forever, but just a suggestion if you know the brands you’re looking for to narrow it down a bit.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 11/06/2026 00:04

@oustedbymymate The Scandinavians do this pared back style well - as do M&S who are just spot on this summer! Good well cut trousers, nice t shirts and shirts as well as trainers and jackets. You cannot go wrong for very decent prices. The other retailers are Arket and &OtherStories both of which, and Cos, are H&M. Massimo Dutti are totally reliable and they are Zara. So Spanish. All do the loom you are after. Samsoe Samsoe are Danish and superb and you might like Ganni. Their sales are good! The Kooples are expensive but stylish!
