I’ve lost a lot of weight and don’t really have a sense of style. I’ve found a local to me service that offers a package of styling to your budget for £40. I’m really tempted but don’t know if it’s worth it?

Professional stylists, with reliable credentials and experience, charge hundreds of pounds for half a day, or a day.

And largely untrained shop assistants at places like John Lewis charge nothing.

£40 seems an odd price - but no one can say whether it will be useful or not without knowing who is offering the service.

It’s a woman local to me who has set up a new service - the £40 gives you a shoppable moodboard to your budget

I booked one at John Lewis and was very very disappointed. They didn't bring me a single thing I wanted to wear.

I would consider paying someone to help me buy a special outfit or e.g. build a summer wardrobe, but to get someone good, I'd have thought you'd need to pay much more than £40.

For £40 though I might treat it as bit of fun and see what they come up with.

This is what I’m thinking, for an upcoming holiday

A £40 service will probably be as useful as getting a consultation from chat gpt. People who will do better than chat gpt will
charge a lot more

I loved my John Lewis personal shopper sessions, bought several things i felt great in and wore them for years

dartmoordays · 10/06/2026 12:19

I kind of think I could do the same thing with a moodboard to be honest… but then again I don’t know if It’s worth it?

No, I'll spend a day in a first class shopping centre with a close friend, and try on loads of clothes, no inhibitions.

dartmoordays · 10/06/2026 12:28

I ended up ordering these, with discount codes they were only £50!

Wouldn't shock me if she literally put it through chat gpt. Save your money.

What sort of thing would I be asking ChatGPT to get the same advice?

I just asked ChatGPT, out of interest, and it has reguritated all the usual stuff about colours and how to out together a capsule wardrobe, suggested some shops to look at, but hasn't identified specific pieces.

I’ve also bought these bits. I think between these and what I have in my wardrobe I should be pretty set
