Where to find a flattering dress like this for a fuller bust and slim hips

I'm trying to figure out where to get a specific dress shape that will fit a very top heavy bust, it might need/would help to have some stretch in the top. Dsis is almost phobic about dress shopping because she has never enjoyed it and it's so tricky finding what fits and suits her, she has a 34H bust but is only size 12 on the bottom. She's got nice legs so we agree she should show them off- the pic of her was from our holiday last year. Red is the first choice.

If we go clothes shopping she will give up within the first 20 minutes and gets stressed and despondent. She has a couple of events to go to soon and nothing to wear- her favourite 'going out' dress has been worn many times and is not dressy enough going forward. She's time poor so know she's grateful for any assistance, and I'd appreciate any pointers. I'm based in London and intend to have a look in Fonthill Road next week.

Have trawled through images online to find what we think will look good and have shortlisted some looks. The cowl neck draped one is a fair representation of what she'd look like in it, aiming for some flounce to balance it all out. At a push she could go braless but more likely it will be a racer back style which would hopefully hide any straps. We haven't got time to have one made (definitely going to push for this going forward!) but could potentially find a seamstress for alterations.

that's a really nice dress, love this colour, I'm completely opposite breast size lol

The holiday pic in shorts is lovely, but the cowl neck dress is proportionally all wrong. Short might not be the way to go in order to balance the shape, you need some length and fullness in the skirt. I’ve got boobs and slim hips and it is a factor in buying clothes, but I hate some of the cliches like wrap dresses. I like a neckline that shows some collarbone and I’m fastidious about which bra goes with which top/dress and how things fit. I use a tailor a lot.

The red dress on holiday is nice, but it’s too small. A larger size would avoid the stretch over bust.

She needs something with a V neck. Have a look at clubforty Claire on insta, she has great ideas. She does a feature size by side.

@ElliePhant28 and @PinkTonic the woman in the cowl neck dress is not Dsis, if you look closer that person is not brown skinned!

I found the pic on a selling site and know that is what she'd looked like in it (which is why she wouldn't wear it). The other pictures of the red dresses is pretty much what we're looking for. V necks are not always good on her as they're too revealing, we're both quite short bodied. I guess the holiday top shape with a flouncy skirt would be ideal.

No I got it wasn’t her. But you said it was representative of how it would fit and it isn’t nice. Your sis looks like she has lovely legs so I understand wanting to get them out. I do find separates easier and sometimes a looser top with judicious tucking to show slim waist and hips is how I go. Plus very good bras, a variety of, because the same bra can look different depending on the top. I’ll often put something on and decide I need different underwear.

Thanks all, appreciate your input.

@Tortephant not quite what we need, the jumpsuit is nice but velvet would be a bit wintery.

@PinkTonic Yes, the cowl neck one is not a shape that would work, I just used the image to illustrate her body shape and what a such a dress would look like. Undies are not an issue, that’s my line of work so I sort all her bras and bikinis 😆

LOVE THIS :)

marriednotdead · 10/06/2026 14:24

Thanks, that’s really nice but sold out in any possible size 😢
Colouring is also almost identical to her existing dress!

@Overtheatlantic Thanks, it’s a nice dress but too long and for want of a better expression, not dramatic enough!

@minipie this is gorgeous and I could see her in it. Why is if sold out?! 😢

Dammit sorry missed that it was sold out! But you get the idea- I’m sure there are quite a few floaty mini dresses around, sort of boho style?

minipie · 10/06/2026 15:03

another gorgeous reiss option

I’ll stop now - I am living vicariously, my legs are not my strong point & I would love to be able to wear these!

kerryanna1 · 10/06/2026 15:03

great website, agree :)

minipie · 10/06/2026 14:57

How about

reiss

farm rio

emilia rose (caveat- no idea about this brand]]

I really like this in the orange/pink combo, possibly too casual for what we need for the next event but might get her to order it anyway.

Essentially need a red carpet level of dress ideally.

No, please don’t stop, you’re being really helpful! Some of the drapey ones that look flowy and elegant on a small bust will look like she’s wearing a holiday bathrobe unfortunately. We’ve been fighting this issue for many years which is why I do the legwork now!

OP posts:
minipie · 10/06/2026 15:37

Yes I can see the wrapover style could suffer from bathrobe effect. I think the non wrapover ones could be good though? Like the farm rio one or the second reiss one?

The reason for suggesting drapey styles is that the non drapey, more tailored v necks I suspect just won’t fit her. For example this is pretty but there just doesn’t look to be enough room in the bust. And stretchy is not going to be flattering.
