Wedding outfit ideas needed - for a short, busty woman needing trainers. Asking the Impossible?!

MCF86 · 09/06/2026 23:33

Please help me! I fear I am asking the impossible.

I don't know how to put an outfit together at the best of times and I have a wedding to go to at the end of the month. I have spent hours looking online for something to wear.

My problems are that I'm short, over weight and busty.
I need to wear trainers for disability reasons so would like trousers (16 short) and ideally would like to hide my upper arms just for self conscious reasons (something that works with a larger chest - 38H so size really depends, 14-18 but I could order a few and return.)

I have been trying to shift some weight but haven't managed enough to get into my last wedding outfit so I really do need to get my arse in gear now.
I don't want to look like I'm going to work in an office but any searches for occasion wear are dresses or sleeveless tops 😩

My day to day wardobe is super casual as I work as an SEN support assistant so I'm dressed for playing on the floor or in the playground, so I've had no practice at all at dressing up for a good 15 years since I used to have a social life 😂

As I said, I fear I'm asking the impossible here but would really appreciate any tips - even just styles of tops, or brands for bigger boobs I could be googling.

Thank you so much for any pointers!

Im just off to bed but I also need to wear trainers, the last wedding I went to.i wore a coloured trouser suit with a floral blouse/top. Just to give you something to look for. Im also short and a bit busty.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 09/06/2026 23:44

Long dress or trousers. I’ll have a think!

minipie · 09/06/2026 23:54

Jumpsuit sounds like it could work? Cropped leg (full length on you) or a petite length. What’s your budget?

here is one but there will be others

Drivingmissrangey · 10/06/2026 00:05

When you say trainers are there a specific pair you need to wear or open to looking for something a bit more special? I love the adidas liberty trainers in blue floral, these would like great with some wide leg navy or pale blue trousers. Or how about some metallic trainers?

I would go for a wide leg trouser suit, possible a pale blue. I love a jumpsuit but so difficult to get the proportions right.

Such a shame you don’t give a budget, @MCF86!

Tbh I don’t see why you need necessarily stick to trousers just because of your footwear - but if that’s what you prefer it’s fine. Three suggestions at different budgets below - each would be easy to have shortened. And each could be easily co-ordinated with either a top / shirt, or a jacket, as you prefer.

  1. These would be wonderfully swishy and grand at a wedding:

  1. Any colour you like of Kemi Telford’s palazzo trousers would be Event worthy

  1. These are glorious. Pure silk, in the sale and would make you look great on any occasion for years to come:

Hope Trousers in Swamp print

The 100% Silk Hope pants are hugely generous in volume which tapers in to pleats at the waist and darts at the hem. With exposed zip and comfy slouchy pockets.  The swamp print was created by hand dying and painting silks on frames. The colours are ric...

Those Phase Eight jumpsuits are nice but an absolute bugger to get in and out of - I’ve rejected one for a wedding later this year due to potential loo issues 😳

ParmaVioletTea · 10/06/2026 07:56

If you're on Instagram, search out the account
whatjaneandberylwear

They are funny & real life & lovely, and one of them (not sure if it's Jane or Beryl) is short, busty and not particularly slim.

You might get some ideas about styling and brands from them, and their Insta is just funny & joyous as well. It's very much not the awful pouty plastic Insta influencer style!

Delightful trousers from @BlanklyMyDear.

Yes agree it would be helpful to know what kind of trainers you're thinking of (and whether you have them already) and potentially level of formality/venue etc for the wedding?

Yes fair point - I have a jumpsuit where I’ve attached a matching long ribbon to the zip to help with loo visits, but I see Phase Eight have used those little zips with no hole for a ribbon! How silly.

Lomonald · 10/06/2026 10:44

I tried the pink and white Phase eight jumpsuit on it didn't have any "give" it was a pain to get on i even tried a bigger size, put me right off jumpsuits.

Op I was in the same boat as you …I bought a swishy v neck dress from Roman and wore it with trainers . ( clean ones !) it looked fine. I tend to avoid the longer dresses as they makd me look like Mrs Pepperpot , but mid length are fine

Keepingongoing · 10/06/2026 13:50

I would steer clear of tops with a high neckline like the Karen Millen top a PP posted above. These will emphasise your bust. As will ballon sleeves, because then you’re emphasising the width of the chest.

I have a similar figure and height to you @MCF86 , and have disability- related constraints on what I wear. For a wedding, I might do a smart, fairly fitted v-neck top, really nice trousers, and a smart fitted jacket or silk wrap.

Brands that cater for larger breasts are the holy grail, but you might like to look at Fairlie Curved, who design specifically for a fuller bust

Just spotted these petite palazzo trousers which are nice and could look lovely with a cream silky v neck top and jewellery, maybe a short blazer too.

Adidas tend to work well actually, so I was planning to look there when I find the outfit!
I agree, these jumpsuits all look lovely but these models all have legs almost as long as I am all together 😂😂

Thank you,

it was actually that site I was looking at when I thought all the tops just looked... officey 😭 God, I hate shopping!

I appreciate everybody's suggestions but I feel like the palazzo style trousers as short and wide as I'd need them to be will just make me look even dumpier.

i think I'm going to need to drag my poor son around town on Sunday so I can actually look in person.
I don't know how formal it actually is, I've no idea how to guage that, I've only been to one wedding as an adult, and that wasn't formal at all! But at this point anything nicer than jeans and a hoody is a bonus 😂

Could you share the venue here? That might help get a feel for the vibe of the wedding and what outfit would be appropriate.

MCF86 · 11/06/2026 20:39

I don't have the invitation here, I'll try and remember to check it tomorrow.

Rather than trainers, how about Fitflops? I have a few pairs ranging from sandals, sliders, ballerina and Mary-Janes. They're all really comfortable and look much nicer than trainers for an occasion.

Cheesecakeismeesecake · 11/06/2026 22:43

I'd personally try and lean into the footwear, and make it part of your outfit.

I'm a magpie so I'd go silver but for example, keep it tonal, if wearing dark trousers, choose a trainer in a navy suede, for example.

Sneakerinas are in at the moment and there's loads of variations of that's any inspiration to you op, not sure if that style is a possibility for you

These might work depending on what you like/wear in the main outfit
