@ToastCosILoveIt - thank you for the Kimbotanner mention - I hadn't heard of her before so have followed - she's very inspiring!

I ordered two pairs of suki denim trousers and one of the crinkle cotton tops this morning and used the try before you buy thing for the first time. Does anyone know if returns are still free if you order that way?

Info from Harper (Try Before You Buy) says:
"Your order will be subject to Toast’s return fee policy, see their website for more details."

Edited to add: Something makes me slightly nervous about TBYB, but I can't put my finger on why that is! Perhaps just because it's new to me? Has anyone used it?
Maybe it's the thought of racking up a large potential bill if something goes wrong.

I had a couple of items arrive today.

The window pane top, I like it. I’ll have a better look at it later as the sleeves lift the top up when you lift your arms. I think that’d be ok though. It feels lovely on and will work well with my other clothes.

Also the washed black shorts jumpsuit. Well I have it on and don’t think I’ll take it off today. It’s a nice day, finally, and this is so so comfy. I really like this, it’s right up my street.

ScallopShellWalk · 08/07/2026 14:04

@BigFrau I feel the same. I don’t likely live in an area that I could use it so I haven’t considered it seriously. There was one person on here that was charged for something that was returned. That was enough for me. But it has its benefits for sure.

Thanks. Hmmm. I think it's a good idea in principle. Especially when buying expensive items like coats. I'm able to try on and send back within 5 days, so no problem there. Costs all seem the same as those charged by Toast, no issue there.
So why do have that same nervy feeling that I get when I'm booking a Ryanair flight - that I'm going to miss something in the small print and end up being massively charged for it?

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 08/07/2026 14:18

@BigFrau I've used it once no problem, but I didn’t like the short turn round so unlikely to use it again. I believe @ScottishMouse might have had a problem with it.

ScottishMouse · 08/07/2026 14:24

Yes, I did have a problem once with the Harper service, but it was remedied fairly quickly. I have used it numerous times since with no issues. Returns work the same as normal. I think it is good when you are placing a big order where you know at least some will go back.

IlovePond · 08/07/2026 14:29

Thanks @ScottishMouse

I also remember someone had a problem with it - I just got a bit fed up of yet another amount on my card which, though they do seem to have speeded up refunds, still takes a week or so from ordering to returning. Anyway, it was free delivery above £150 so I thought I'd give it a shot. @ScallopShellWalk I live in a village but the regular service was available to me. I think for the very fast turnaround you have to be in London. I paid for the jacket I ordered last night in the usual way, and then this suki order with try before you buy and they've both been despatched today. I will update when I do my returns

Bimblesalong · 08/07/2026 15:01

@BigFrau I’ve been using the Harper service, fingers crossed as it’s been fine so far. You have to do the return through the harper service itself - via their text/email, I think. I like that I can just bung it in an InPost locker too, much easier than queuing at the post office.

My Toast items arrived today. The totem print dress is just right for me (I’m 5’9”) and is a real keeper. Looks great without the belt and will be good for my holidays. With the belt somewhere cooler will also be fab! I’m looking forward to wearing it for a special meal on my hols.

Unfortunately, I think the cotton seersucker navy dress will go back. It’s a shame as it’s lovely light fabric but the armholes are just too high/ tight and it’ll be problematic in 30 degrees plus. I’ve measured them against the page dress and last year’s long blue linen dress and the seersucker dress armholes are definitely cut smaller.

IlovePond · 08/07/2026 16:02

Just call me an optimist, but I am trying the FM sandals again in a different colour. I hope the straps are longer this time. The brick ones I tried on in-store were fine, but the ones I ordered at the start of the sale barely closed and one set of straps was smaller than the other. (A case of, if I really wanted them, I should have bought the pair in-store once I found a pair that fitted!)

The other stuff I fancied trying was OOS by the time I looked again this afternoon.

I thought about re-ordering the glasses, but it occurred to me that what is coming back into stock are probably the wonky/faulty ones and I would just end up with a set as bad as the ones I returned. (Or the same set!)

Toast refunded me the full cost of the indigo denim jacket that became so easily damaged by my cross over bag strap. I’m pleased they refunded me and there was no communication so I’m very pleased about that. I’m still sad the lovely little jacket didn’t work. I know I could order again and just not wear a bag across the body but I don’t think I want to baby it that much. I don’t need a jacket either. I thought I’d let you know that Toast customer service came through in the end.

ScallopShellWalk · 08/07/2026 16:51

@faustina I will keep in mind that the try before you buy might work out here.

@Bimblesalong the navy seersucker dress, did you order your usual size? I have recently bought this dress and it fits ok on me at the arms. I have come to realise that I need my usual size in anything with a top half otherwise it’s too small across my shoulder blades in that I can’t cross my arms across my body without it being uncomfortable and tight.

Bimblesalong · 08/07/2026 17:07

@ScallopShellWalk thanks for this - yes, I ordered my usual size, same as the page dress which looks a very close shape and fits well. I think if I were going somewhere cooler it wouldn’t be so problematic, but sheer fabric means hot travels! I’ll give it another go but think it’ll have to be returned.

faustina · 08/07/2026 17:17

Very glad you got a refund @ScallopShellWalk,, and I have also found they aren't generous with their top halves, especially anything with buttons and fitted shoulders.

NettleTea · 08/07/2026 17:32

oh Ive fallen in love with the new Totem dress........... but Im currently on Mounjaro so cant justify buying something which HOPEFULLY will be falling off me in a few months. I will just have to hope that nobody else loves it and it ends up in a sale

OftenOrange · 08/07/2026 18:15

Despite the fact that the Toast cull pile still hasn’t been dealt with, I’m on a roll with orders.
I’m very happy with the massive b w check linen trousers , I’m ordering a bigger size as I like a very loose waistband, but one size or another will be kept, they look great with a black or dk grey camisole. I’ve really disliked them before , so
confirming that things need to be tried. Though without the hot weather , and in the tiny Toast fitting room I’d probably have rejected them!
Now I’m after the little matching top which is OOS .

Today ordered those very unusual Trippen sandals , just curious , but suspect they will require obsessive foot grooming and pedicures ….yawn.
Also the patchwork gilet, the Nagusa khaki espadrilles , and a re order of tomato purée crinkle set in the correct size.

Still swithering ( thank you @ScottishMouse for my favourite word) over the Indigo Japanese Jacket . It looks useful and I’ve a couple of pale Toast tops I’m prepared to sacrifice ( I’m assuming the dye will wash out)

Whowhatwerewolf · 08/07/2026 18:55

I'm afraid I love the totem dress too @NettleTea and @Bimblesalong has also posted positive things about it. I suspect it's going to be very popular.

mizu · 08/07/2026 19:07

@ScallopShellWalk that shorts jumpsuit looks lovely, didn’t really take notice of it before. Hmmmm, I’m quite tempted to try it.

mizu · 08/07/2026 19:08

@IlovePond 😁 oh good luck with the sandals!

IlovePond · 08/07/2026 19:31

Thanks @mizu - I really like them. Yours are lovely !

@mizu ive had the shorts jumpsuit since it arrived. I love it.

mizu · 08/07/2026 20:21

@ScallopShellWalk do you mind my asking how tall you are? And wear the shorts end!?

ScallopShellWalk · 08/07/2026 20:31

@mizu I’m 5’2” the shorts end, hold on till I check, just almost below my knee cap. I took a size small. It is a fraction low at the front but I wear sports bras so it makes no odds to me. It’s loose but so comfy. The pockets are at the right height and are comfortable to use. Sometimes if something is a bit big the pockets are too low.

mizu · 08/07/2026 20:41

@ScallopShellWalk sounds like a perfect length to me and a dream to wear. I’m 5ft 7” and think they might not look quite as good.
