What could I wear with a sleeveless tunic to a garden party?

I have a sleeveless tunic ( live unlimited) that i am considering wearing to an informal garden style party. It's black with a thick white band at the bottom, and ends just below my bum.
My problem is what to wear with it, cropped leggings look wrong with it amd now im at a loss.

I wonder if you lovely people can give me a few suggestions? Unfortunately apart from Next, a rubbish M&S and a New Look, we have no clothes shops here, so I'd be relying on Internet order ( which i hate) if its any help im a size 18, with a tummy and a bum i hate ( i think it's huge, everyone else says not)

Any help would be most appreciated as I only have 4 weeks to find something to go with it.

Baggy, lightweight white or cream trousers are very popular right now. Could that possibly work?

It might, I'd have to do a visit to next. The only issue is the tunic isnt fitted, just dont want it to be a too baggy look, if you see what I mean?

I will add some pics, bear with while they get approved! These aren’t current sites but I’m sharing styles.

Cuffed trousers

Wide leg trousers, long or cropped

Try some cropped trousers or denim slim or straight fit, not leggings.

Where are the best places to buy these from? Im normally in cropped jeans and a t shirt for a friends bbq, dont normally have "dressed up" parties!

@whattheysay the tunic isnt fitted so I'd be worried wide style trousers would make me look wide, I still have horror memories of a wedding where I wore an unfitted top and wide trousers and the photos made look horrendous!

You can get nice cropped jean from next and M&S in different colours and fits. I would go for straight/slim cropped or even crop flare for some balance which is fitted at the thigh and knee and flares out a bit under the knee.
I agree don’t go for wide leg or baggy trousers with that tunic as (if it’s the one I looked at at live unlimited) it will just look way too big and baggy.

Hogett · 02/06/2026 18:05

@whattheysay thank you. I'll have a look now.

@Hogett these are quite nice they’re a straight/slim fit on the leg not skinny fit I have these and I think they will look nice with your tunic

Roman normally have an array of colours and lengths for trousers but not usually natural fibres so could be a bit warm.

Hogett · 02/06/2026 19:32

@RaininSummer I was looking at these and then noticed they did a curve version. Im going to give them ago, the reviews dont seem to bad, if theyre too thick its back to the drawing board!
