This is the dresses I am wearing and I'm struggling to find a fascinator. What could would you go for? I am wearing pale gold shoes and have gold shimmer bag. I need it by Saturday and not too pricey!

A fascinator is very old fashioned!

getsomehelp · 01/06/2026 18:07

Sorry, Whats a fascinator ?

BigBrownBoogyingBear · 01/06/2026 18:09

I've never worn anything on my head as a wedding guest. If your accessories are gold, what about a fancy gold headband or hair clip?

A sort of headband with a big bow/flower/netting

Picassosdove · 01/06/2026 18:12

Very pretty dress and shoes. Agree that fascinators are very dated. Better bare headed.

Picassosdove · 01/06/2026 18:13

The hair clip above is lovely 🥰

So is the dress, maybe thats the look they are going for

60andcounting · 01/06/2026 18:17

Sometimes charity shops have new fascinators in. They are not dated. I don't know if you have Louisa near you, they have nice costume jewellery and headbands etc. Accesorize, but that can be pricey.

Hiddeninthetrees · 01/06/2026 18:19

I think the dress is pretty, I often just wear a hair accessory, but if I was choosing one to go with that dress I'd go for something like a single large off white flower design. I think the dress looks light and flowy so you need to try and keep that feel.

FlatErica · 01/06/2026 18:20

Please don’t wear a fascinator, they are so old fashioned and trashy.

something like this not sure if it’s too pricey. But I. Was thinking the dark green picked out from the dark green in the dress. Paler colours of the dress would wash me up if it was literally head to toe so something darker to break it up a bit.

i know fascinators are a bit dated but I have to wear a hatinator or fascinator for an event every year and they are around. Also try Phase 8 as well as John Lewis

To answer your question; I would pick out the green shade from the dress and if I could find green and gold, even better. A small hat on a band might be more up-to-date than an actual fascinator.

Tortephant · 01/06/2026 18:25

Hat. Rent one.

SirChenjins · 01/06/2026 18:31

I'd go for a green colour - and fuck 'em, wear a fascinator if you want to. There will be lots of women wearing them at the wedding and having a fab time in the process.

ginton · 01/06/2026 19:27

Are you going to the races? Or a wedding?

A fascinator is very old fashioned!

Still very common in weddings I attend - 30s-40s

NovemberMorn · 01/06/2026 19:31

Ignore the bitchy remarks OP.
The dress is lovely, floaty and summery and ideal for a wedding at this time of year.
If you want a fascinator buy one, they are still in fashion, but even so....who cares?
I would pick one using the light cream or blue of the dress.
I'm sure you will look lovely. x

Every smart wedding I have been to in past couple of years has had many women in beautiful dresses and fascinators so maybe out of fashion in the capital but not elsewhere.

fantam · 01/06/2026 19:34

Someone, somewhere, on a S+B thread once said that fascinators were out, and don't dare mention pashminas. Of course now, every time anyone asks for advice on fascinators/cover ups/pashminas for a special occasion, the usual nodding donkey chorus chimes in with " Old Fashioned, Don't Dare, Out Out Out" without even asking for a look at the proposed outfit.

The herd view. OP I think many fascinators can look great to set off an outfit. It's ok if others don't like them, but they are not YOU. Have a look on Amazon for ideas and replicate in whatever shop you like to shop in or even Amazon itself! They'd be quick to deliver anyway.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/06/2026 19:36

Do not ruin the look with a fascinator. Sooo old fashioned.
