Inspired by some other threads (NC alert) I’ve decided the time is ripe for an overhaul/glow up. My plan is to make significant changes over a period of time and do a new one each month whilst keeping the old changes- nothing revolutionary but needed and I hope to get long term benefits/results.

at the moment my diet is pretty crap-which will be my next focus - the first was a new hairdo (which is a change and growing on me!), then multi vitamins, then 2L of water each day then a form of exercise each week.

In the short term before as I’m making bigger adjustments I’m hoping to get some advice on what are the likely to be the most significant gains to look like me but better.
I don’t like the feel of acrylics and currently don’t wear any make up.

I don’t know any over 58 yr olds who has skin like that photo 🤷🏻‍♀️

footbeds · 04/06/2026 16:30

Jennifer Lopez maybe but I think she isn’t as old as that and has had some help

BIossomtoes · 04/06/2026 16:30

I thought we were talking about jawlines, not skin.

allthegoldicouldeat · 04/06/2026 16:38

Another one here to say Invisalign for my crooked teeth, implants to replace two missing teeth, and composite bonding.

footbeds · 04/06/2026 16:40

I would say firm smooth skin is linked to a tight jawline but we will have to agree to disagree

Whowhatwerewolf · 04/06/2026 16:49

Mounjaro face is a thing. If you don't believe me you can Google it. It isn't caused by the medication but by rapid weight loss. Unfortunately I know because I have it and my jawline and neck are sagging now that I've lost 3 stone. The weight loss was worth it however and I do look a lot better overall.

My top tip that no one has mentioned so far is false eyelashes. Not the big fake caterpillar ones but subtle ones you apply just under your own lashes (I order them from Lola's lashes). They draw the eye upwards to your eyes rather than any lower face sagging. Likewise slightly cats-eye shaped eye glasses have a subtle lifting effect.

It’s one where you can see the outline of the bone and there’s no loose skin.

This lady probably isn’t over 30! Unless they’ve had a face lift, no one looks like that at 58.

Nobody said she was 58. It was illustrative of a taut jawline because a pp apparently didn’t know.

quirkychick · 04/06/2026 17:24

I'm 55, have a taut/smooth jawline, I don't have jowls or a turkey neck. I think it's not due to anything radical, but lots of little consistent habits eg healthy diet, spf/sun protection, natural skincare, and more recently - some face exercises/gua sha/nuface.

TwilightSkies · 04/06/2026 17:26

Being slim. All my clothes look good on me when I’m slim.
Subtle last clusters.
Drinking lots of water and no alcohol.
Whitening my teeth.

Its usually genetic

Which exercises did you find effective?

quirkychick · 04/06/2026 18:10

@Allseeingallknowing I've been using an old Eva Fraser facial exercise book, thpugh only since about January. I'm not sure it whether it helped with jowls, as I didn't have any, but helped the marionette lines and generally smoothed things out a bit.

Show us a 60 yr old with a jawline like the photo you posted then 😆

Teeth are number one

Not overweight is number two

My teeth are a mess due to negligent parents. I can't afford to change that.

MarthaBerry · 04/06/2026 21:01

Place marking as I need help

poppsyboo · 05/06/2026 13:24

I do agree - teeth are also a major factor.

Shavasana · 05/06/2026 13:30

Daily yoga
giving up alcohol
regular facials and daily spf 50

I agree that ideally we should all be lifting weights, but you must agree that plenty of women look great without lifting weight at all. At least in middle age, in old age might be different.

With their clothes on yes sure, if you're slim you can look fine. But they would look a lot better if they lifted weights.

Plenty of non-weight lifters look good naked as well.

G5000 · 05/06/2026 18:01

In my opinion to look good naked, the body needs to be what is often called 'toned', i.e reasonable amount of muscle mass. And we start losing our muscle mass in our 30s, so by middle age, people who don't actively maintain their muscles don't look as great as someone who does.

But it’s not just about looking good!

Just look how weak and impaired many elderly people are. Falls are a major cause of disability and death. To remain strong and active as we get older we absolutely have to do some form of weight and/or resistance training.

Seeing that I’m in my 70s, as are most of my friends, I know the difference between decent quality of life and leading a sadly diminished life.

My mother broke her hips in her mid-80s and, even though the hip was fixed and she had the best possible healthcare, she never walked again - she didn’t have the strength. The last year of her life was utterly miserable.

Start off with a deep clean. Gradually replace discoloured fillings. Use whitening products. That’s a start. Discuss a payment plan with your dentist
