What changes made the biggest difference to your overall appearance?

Inspired by some other threads (NC alert) I’ve decided the time is ripe for an overhaul/glow up. My plan is to make significant changes over a period of time and do a new one each month whilst keeping the old changes- nothing revolutionary but needed and I hope to get long term benefits/results.

at the moment my diet is pretty crap-which will be my next focus - the first was a new hairdo (which is a change and growing on me!), then multi vitamins, then 2L of water each day then a form of exercise each week.

In the short term before as I’m making bigger adjustments I’m hoping to get some advice on what are the likely to be the most significant gains to look like me but better.
I don’t like the feel of acrylics and currently don’t wear any make up.

Losing fat from your face looks appalling , especially if you are older.

Au contraire from me. 58 and my cheekbones, darling! Tight jawline, glowing skin.

I agree. My puffy face and blurred jaw disappeared along with three stone.

Is money an issue and how are your teeth? I got invisalign a couple of years back, people comment that i smile a lot more now and it's cos I am no longer self conscious about my teeth. It does take time depending on how much you need done and it can be pricey but I felt it was worth doing.

In my teens/20s starting regular exercise classes, then gym and running. And also drinking tap water.

In my 40s, having veneers on my front teeth.

More recently, losing two stone and keeping it off.

Having your colours done before you start any styling overhaul.

Getting rid of stresses out of your life is a big thing

Losing weight
Strength training 3x a week
Invisalign
Eyebrow tint
Eyelash serum

I look about 10 times better since I started all of this!

Whatsyourcakevice · 03/06/2026 20:06

Being a healthy weight / strength training

Did you see how many women have posted on here with weight loss as their number 1?

3luckystars · 04/06/2026 07:26

Teeth are number one

Not overweight is number two

I tried a PT. I couldn't walk for days after the session. I felt like a silly fat old woman, it was awful.
I'm starting from zero.

If you are really starting from zero, may I suggest Lucy Wyndham Read on YouTube. She is lovely and her very short workouts are an excellent starting point. She is also very good for anyone who for whatever reason cannot or doesn’t want to use weights.

My remark was about having a tight jawline at 58!

But why shouldn’t a 58 year old have a tight jawline? Especially having lost a tonne of weight!

I appreciate that turkey necks are a thing, but I certainly don’t have one. The only women of my acquaintance and age who do are overweight. And probably genetics are playing a part.

Sensible, steady weight loss, keeping the protein up and decent skincare will guard against a drawn look, if that’s what you are thinking of..

Because losing weight from the face often does result in jowls and saggy neck, and not a taut jawline! At 58, many women have these anyway!

Er loads of slim young people don’t have tight jawlines…

That doesn’t mean someone aged 58 couldn’t have one. I’m a lot older than 58 and I don’t have jowls. At a normal weight it’s all down to genes - thanks, Dad!

footbeds · 04/06/2026 16:16

I didn’t say otherwise but it’s certainly not the norm that a 58 yr old has a tight jawline naturally.

footbeds · 04/06/2026 16:17

Also a lack of jowls doesn’t mean a taut jawline. Plenty of people younger than 58 have neither.

And some of us over 58 have both. 🤷‍♀️

footbeds · 04/06/2026 16:23

Perhaps it’s down to what you define as a taut jawline….

It’s one where you can see the outline of the bone and there’s no loose skin.
