Leopard print shoes - AIBU?!

I need opinions on these shoes I've just ordered please cos I'm having second thoughts...

Leopard Print Shoes

I normally wouldnt touch leopard print with a barge pole, but it has moved on from Bette Lynch back in the day and I've started to appreciate it used as a neutral (perimenopause has done wonderful things to my brain!) But are these shoes a step too far? I wear mostly casual dresses in black, navy, khaki day to day

I like leopard print, but I'd say no to these. The white spoils them in my opinion.

TheMimsy · Yesterday 22:01

@ForestHare 52 and my only issue is they are pretending an EU 42 is a 9. I want these in a 43/44… pours.

I wear white converse, leopard print trainers and shoes etc with my jeans, trousers and denim dresses/skirts etc. love a splash of leopard print for a bit of fun.

Calliopespa · Today 00:03

I don't mind them - so long as you don't wear them with a leopard print catsuit.

I don't wear leopard print myself but a touch of it is quite fashionable in trainers atm. Addis have done some fun ones.

The V is "inspired" by Veja isn't it? And I think Victoria have started putting it on some of theirs.

Francestein · Today 03:09

That’s leopard done well. The only way this would be tacky was if you were to wear them with leopard print spandex mini dresses. (Even then some people who are not me, have the skill to make it look boldly ironic and cool.)

Christ, to think the leopard print is bet Lynch is really very dated

To be fair, when it first came back into fashion it was very much playing on that asthetic. It was a bit sexy, a bit dirty, a bit rock n roll. Now it's been tamed to a neutral.

Sure but I’m in my fifties and it was so so ubiquitous with bet lynch at the time, that I’m not sure I can ever see it completely isolated from bet. It’s like an instinctive recoil.

i do find it curious though as there is a lot of love for it on here still but i seldom to never now see it when out and about anymore. There was a period a few years back it was on every thing, jeans, trousers, belts, tops, jackets, and in multiple colour ways, but now, I seldom see it any more and the shops are less full of it.

I've got to the age where I don't give a monkey's rats ass about what other people think of what I wear - if I like it - I'll wear it. It's their problem not mine if they don't.

That’s…great? But this is Style and Beauty, and the OP asked for opinions on her shoes.

Why does this happen so often on these boards now 🤦🏻‍♀️

I agree with this (not the Bet Lynch bit), we were tripping over leopard print a few years ago when it was everywhere and now it seems to have become much less common in shops.

I have quite a few leopard pieces but would never wear more than one at a time! Like many here I have the Adidas leopard trainers and wear them a lot.

BIossomtoes · Today 06:45

I don’t think age has anything to do with it. I’m 73 this year and I love it, the Bet Lynch connotations went about 20 years ago. I associate it more with Kate Moss.

TheFutureIs · Today 06:53

Leopard is a staple in my wardrobe! If anything the print is a bit subtle for me
Got a pair of Adidas loafers in leopard arriving soon

olympicsrock · Today 07:05

Love them . I think they will liol
great with the other neutral clothes you have described

DisrobeDatrobe · Today 07:06

They're nice - I like everything about them, the shape, the colour of the laces, the white flash.

I'm old enough to remember Bet Lynch but I think she left Coronation Street about 30 years ago, I really wouldn't worry about that.

Gosh Kate moss hasn’t done leopard for decades either, I think that goes to what a pp said, when it first came back in it was a bit rock and roll, now it’s much tamer, and few of us are rocking Kate moss vibes.

its definitely one that divides the audience. The marmite of fashion.

NorWouldTilly · Today 07:08

Well, they’re not shoes.

But more importantly - they’re plastic.

I’m surprised anyone would buy or recommend footwear for which the description of the uppers and sole are both ‘Other material’. And where you have to read the reviews to discover what they’re actually made of.

They will be sheer hell to wear in hot weather.

The leopard print really isn’t the issue.

I suspect that everyone who wants one has now bought a leopard print dress and possibly got a bit bored of it after it being so uniquitous. Accessories last longer but again, we've probably hit saturation point and are probably in the replacement only stage. My teens love leopard print jeans so I assume that is the trendiest option right now.

I think they will look great OP!
As others have said, one leopard print item with otherwise non-print clothes looks great, (particularly white or green, pinks, tans, browns in my personal opinion).

MagratJunior · Today 08:47

I have actually furry leopard trainers OP, so I certainly don't think yours are too much.

(Nor are mine, I insist. It's a close cut fabric, so you don't see it's fur, only feel it. They do legitimately feel like stroking an animal and all the panels go the right way, so you can stroke them. And they're Nike, so a normal brand. I wear them to work sometimes, but the children stroke my feet which can be a trip hazard...😆)

I am a big fan of leopard print. I'll even happily wear more than one thing at a time, if the patterns and colours match perfectly. I have a beautiful, voluminous but tailored leopard shirt dress I wear with them at times. I could not be described as a discreet dresser though, on the whole.

autumn1610 · Today 08:52

I love leopard print but not a fan of these, there’s just something that doesn’t hit right with me. But if you like them then go for it!

MsRinky · Today 09:23

I love my mother dearly but in the 80s she was very much the Greenham Common weave your own lentils type, whereas Bet Lynch and my Aunty Christine, both bottle blondes with a penchant for fags and leopard skin were to my eyes the absolute epitome of glamour. So I will never baulk at being compared to Bet, the woman was an absolute queen!

ConstanzeMozart · Today 11:45

Leopard print definitely is a neutral and I'll die on that hill. Also, Bet Lynch is an icon. She's one of Grace Dent's style inspirations and Grace Dent rules IMO.

I think they'll go well with your dresses in the colours you wear. I will only say I'm not 100% on the white flash, mainly because it looks a bit like a Veja rip-off. But I'd have to see them on to make the final call. And if you love them, then fuck everyone else!

Duckyfondant · Today 11:51

It's the burgundy I don't like. Looks bloody against the leopard print. I really like the ones pictured by a PP, above.

Bloozie · Today 12:06

Leopard print is definitely a neutral. I love them.
