Greasy hair problem

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/05/2026 09:48

I suffer from greasy hair.

Don’t tell me to stop washing it because it’s so bad on Day 3 it HAS to be washed or I look a tramp

I’ve tried every shampoo going.

The problem I have now is that I cut a fringe in to hide my eleven lines but it doesn’t really do the trick and it’s SO greasy the FIRST day after a wash and looks absolutely shit. Do I just resign myself to the lines and get rid of the fringe? Is there anything I can try?

A long time ago my friend had really greasy hair and she used washing up liquid as a first wash. She mixed it up with water and literally smothered her head. She then used whichever cheap shampoo she had and it worked well.
Three days is my limit but on the last day i often put my hair up using Wow pop and lock and got to be hair spray. Have you thought of trying a clarifying shampoo to get rid of any buildup?

I would have thought the vast majority of people would need to wash their hair by day three.

Fringe washing is the way. I have really greasy hair with a fringe and I wash it all every other day then dry shampoo and tie back my hair on day 2 with a fringe wash. It's the only way I've got it to every other day. If I want to wear it down it needs to be washed every day. It's always been greasy and I've never grown out of it unfortunately.

It sounds like you need to wash it on day 2 then, there’s nothing strange or unusual about that.

@tiramisugelato for complicated reasons, a shower every day doesn’t work for me

Do you have greasy skin too? I had PCOS, before the menopause, and I had very greasy hair and skin with acne. I had to wash my hair daily, I couldn't even manage more than 1 day. Do you think you might have PCOS?

Then I’m not sure what solution you’re after other than live with the grease or make it possible to wash your hair daily.

Apparently the trick with dry shampoo is to apply it to your hair straight after washing (once it's dry obviously!). So it acts as a preventative measure rather than a remedy after your hair is greasy.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 02/06/2026 11:21

I’ll definitely start trying this @LindorDoubleChoc

This is a shout

I agree I use medium heat now or I’d be there hours on low but my hairdresser also recommended that. Also less heat less damage

Ethelspagetti · 02/06/2026 14:26

I used to have greasy hair. I washed it 3 times a week with dry shampoo in between. But looking back on it, I should have just washed it every night. Now I’m peri menopausal my hair is dry! Silver lining I guess!

patooties · 02/06/2026 14:46

Do you not just have a daily shower and wash it in there?

Or wash your hair daily with a very small amount of mild shampoo and no conditioner. Could reduce the need to generate scalp oul.

This. I have highlighted hair so the roots are very greasy and the ends are very dry. I’ve tried all kinds of ‘miracle’ products over the years, the only thing that works is this

https://www.hollandandbarrett.com/shop/product/faith-in-nature-lavender-geranium-shampoo-500ml-metal-6100005471?skuid=076323&utm_campaign=shopping&utm_id=21746708872&utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=21736550850&gbraid=0AAAAAD96OoJ-cumVl_P9Ov9avo852FSvr&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIrbaA8tjolAMV1KJQBh1t1g5sEAQYASABEgJKXvD_BwE

I use a 10p size amount, lather it up into my hair and leave it for 5 minutes while I wash/shave everything else. Then rinse. When I get out I use a detangling brush and a small amount of hair oil brushed through the ends to stop the frizz.

The grease has calmed right down and now I only wash every other day.
