What to wear to an outdoor gig

I’m going to outdoor concert in Belfast at the end of June, any ideas what I should wear? It’s a standing gig and I want to be comfortable but feel good with how I look.

Depends what kind of gig it is....folk, rock, classical.

Good shoes, as you’ll be standing around.

Folk - jeans, slight boho look
Heavy metal - black T-shirts
Jazz - slightly smarter (although only been to Cheltenham jazz festival, which is a smarter place to be)

Nice weather - maxi dress or midi dress
v hot weather - shorts, mini dress

It’s the Cure, so no sequins and stetsons! I like the idea of a maxi dress. I did think denim shorts and a band tshirt if it’s hot but DH doesn’t think you should wear the same band tshirt as the band you’re seeing to a gig 😕

What? Every gig I've ever been to has been a sea of band t-shirts from that band

Tryingtobenormal124 · 30/05/2026 10:47

Probably wellies and a rain coat! Only kidding hopefully. Enjoy. Wear what your comfy in

evilharpy · 30/05/2026 11:24

I'm going to that too! No idea what I'll be wearing, prob a winter coat and bringing an umbrella. Last time I went to an outdoor gig in Belfast was last August and I think I wore jeans, trainers, t shirt and warmish raincoat which I was quite glad of.

redboxerclub · 30/05/2026 11:32

Depends on the weather but I’d go jeans and t shirt and birks and a light jacket or shorts and T-shirt if warm, decent trainers if wet.

Maxi dress could be a bit cumbersome if you’re hovering over a blocked portaloo. Although in my recent experience they are kept a lot cleaner than they used to be.
I wear shorts, top in bright colour so friends can find me in a crowd and closed toe shoes eg Vans if it’s dry, wellies if it’s wet. Take long sleeves for later and waterproof which is also handy to sit on.

Out of curiosity what did you end up going with @Teawithfrenchtoast? I'm seeing Lewis Capaldi on Tuesday at Blackweir and can't decide what to wear at all! 🤦🏻‍♀️ (Although you had the crazy heat, I think Tuesday it's back to 35% chance of rain and sub twenties). 🤣 I think part of my anxiety about what to wear is I've not done an outdoor gig since my teens and not sure how crazy busy it will feel.

A band T would work. Accessories like necklaces/ bracelets or a cool hat. Closed toed shoes ideally boots in case the ground gets churned up by the crowd/ you get squished. A light jacket or long sleeved shirt you can tie round your waist. It is likely to be cold going home. Shorts or trousers not a skirt or dress. You need to be able to negotiate crowds and some men can get handsy in a crowd when everyone is looking one way.

The weather was a nice 20 degrees for the gig I went to, quite windy though. I wore a black and white vest top and faded black jeans with trainers and a windbreaker for when I got chilli. Hope you have a fab time tonight @mummabubs!
