Do grey blending services really need to cost thousands?

Thegreyladyoflondon · 25/05/2026 13:07

I am getting aggressively marketing grey blending services.

I am tempted, but the prices! A place near me - you have to go in with 3 months of regrowth roots. And then go.on a journey of 3-6 months, during which you will be transformed to a low maintenance client embracing your greys.

It costs over £7800! For 3-6 months (unlimited appointments during this time, but suppose she/you are busy?)

I have all over tint brunette roots every 6 weeks. It looks really warm and goes brassy, particularly as I swim.

U want to get away from this, and embrace long her with salt and pepper.... Inspiration pics attaxhdd

do I need to pay thousands and thousands to get going?

The 3 months of regrowth would put me off - and the price!

ZenNudist · 25/05/2026 13:12

I've literally never heard of this. Just get your hairdyed a more manageable grey brunette mix like the pictures you posted. You're always going to have regular colour appointments but 7800 will go a long way towards that.

Changingplace · 25/05/2026 13:18

Why on earth would blending grey cost more than blending any other colour? Sounds like a complete con to me.

ShanghaiDiva · 25/05/2026 13:23

This ‘journey’ sounds incredibly expensive.
My journey: grow out roots for three months, have hair cut short, grow hair and the blending will happen by itself!

notatinydancer · 25/05/2026 13:28

There’s one on Instagram it’s £15000 !!!

ThisJadeBear · 25/05/2026 13:45

I know someone who does it and it costs a fortune.
I have been for a consultation so I understand all the extra work/time it takes.
However it’s £4,500 for the basic package.
Mine is just one flat colour and I hate it!

I’ve seen it wow! And women travel for miles as well.

Plsudb · 25/05/2026 13:47

anyone paying for such has more money than sense

I’m nearly 50 and my hair is natural. It can do what it bloody wants and I don’t care.

A hairdresser once picked through my hair as though it was crawling with lice. Following this, she exclaimed in horror and disbelief
you don’t have any colour in this at all

i now let my dd cut my hair at home with the dog’s hair scissors. I first let her do it when she was about 12 and she made a real funny hack job of it. But now she’s done it for 6 years, it looks just fine.

I won’t pay anything for hair, aside from shampoo and conditioner. I can afford it, but refuse.

TheShoeLady · 25/05/2026 13:49

I shaved my head. Cost nothing and made last summers heatwave much more bearable.

Now have 4 inches of lovely good-condition totally grey hair and wishing I could shave it all off again! 🥵

Nearly £8k is ridiculous but then I have never paid more than £40 for a hair cut and coloured it myself for £5 up until embracing the grey so I’m probably not their target market!

Huckleberries · 25/05/2026 13:51

That is a crazy price

I've never asked my hairdresser, but I can't think it would be anything like that

Be better off doing it yourself

I thought about it, but I think just colouring hair the regular way is easier

ThePoetsWife · 25/05/2026 13:54

I have this but it’s all natural - didn’t have to pay a penny. Just grow out the dye like I did - best decision as it saved me a fortune and hours of wasted salon time

Tenniswhites · 25/05/2026 13:56

That is a ridiculous amount of money.

Find yourself a good hairdresser who is good with colours and have a consultation.

I have naturally dark hair (and regularly had a dark tint to make it shiny) but hated the line of grey regrowth so now have ‘grey blending which costs about £100 a time & go roughy 2-3 times a year. She is so skilful at blending the greys that the regrowth is not that obvious.

When I get enough grey to stop the colour & embrace the grey, it will be fairly easy to deal with.

The same woman used to be £6000. She must be taking it in. I’ve told my hairdresser to look into it. (Not charge me that much obviously 😂)

CatServant1 · 25/05/2026 14:48

Wow. That's costly. I just let my dye grow out. It was fine and I ended up with hair rather like your pictures. Much cheaper.

But you can get low lights/highlights, and people get their hair just dyed grey too, why does blending but in grey become any more complicated?

I genuinely don’t understand, often if you’re having different tones they’ll strip the colour first so it’s a two stage process, how is grey different?

DeltaVariant · 25/05/2026 15:03

I’m in my 30s and just not starting to dye it 🤣. Natures grey blend 🤣.

DelphiniumBlue · 25/05/2026 15:16

I had lowlights to blend the roots in, I think about 3 or 4 appointments over a year. It was about 120 pounds a time, which I thought was very expensive! Quite a well known salon in London. So yes, several thousand does sound exorbitant.

BornAgainLuddite · 25/05/2026 15:22

I dyed my hair once in the mid-90s. It didn't look like me, so I didn't do it again. I've been greying naturally since 2001. Can recommend.

minniewin · 25/05/2026 15:22

dont pay anyone upfront for the service. Do it gradually. I know of a famous one in Yorkshire who isn’t what she seems and demands payment up front

GardenCovent · 25/05/2026 15:31

I got mine done, it took about 4 appointments in total and was approx £120 each appt so that figure seems ridiculous

That sounds fair enough, I pay £120 for lowlights, surely this is just lowlights but grey? I think it’s a racket that they’re charging thousands!

Passingthrough123 · 25/05/2026 15:39

Grey blending is the new emperor's clothes IMO. Hairdressers charging thousands for strategically placed grey highlights is insane. You just need to bite the bullet and let it grow. I'm a year in and I love my natural silver sparkles. The ends are a bit orangey from old dye, but I just get regular trims.

Yep I’m delighted with mine, have went from appts every 6 weeks to 3 times a year.

How anyone could charge thousands, let alone pay it is a whole world to the one I live in

GardenCovent · 25/05/2026 15:41

sorry that reply was to @Passingthrough123

The one I saw on Instagram said please do not get in touch if you can’t afford the process.
Charming 🤣
