Dry skin help- sensitive and parched and a bit red

Currently using Dr Jart Ceramidin. And I do like as it hydrates well but I’d love to feel plumpy. My skin is red around nose and mouth from dryness and weather.

I’ve tried Hyluronic serum but it did nothing.

I have the dr Jart cicarepair but it’s not hydrating enough.

I've just suffered with something similar using Estee Lauder Daywear moisturiser. I'd put it on in the morning, and by 2-3pm my skin was so sore and craving moisture. My cheeks were red and I had dehydration spots and breakouts. Wouldn't mind but I've used Daywear for ages without any ill effects. To be honest, I think it might have been the Liz Earle toner that I was using after my cleanse which may have damaged my skin barrier a little.

What has saved me is Aveeno Baby moisture cream. Its for newborns and those with eczema. I just used a gentle cream wash (I was lucky to pick up some REN Evercalm cleansing cream recently so used that) and then applied the Aveeno as day and night cream. A couple of days and my skin feels much more comfortable and hydrated so I have been able to go back to my usual routine (sans the Liz Earle!).

Another Aveeno product that helped me when I suffered a horrendous reaction to cream containing Bakuchiol is the Aveeno Calm & Restore Oat Rich Balm for Dry and Sensitive Skin. My skin peeled as a result of the reaction and I was recommended this by the pharmacist in Boots. Cleared and soothed my skin overnight. This was the product that I was going for when I had my recent problem, and only got the Aveeno Baby as they didn't have the balm, but it seems to have worked just as well.

I have the daywear skin tint and the fragrance is strong so I think might be quite harsh

I like Avene cicalfate.
Around the nose and mouth sounds like i perioral dermatitis and if it is then use a toothpaste and skin products without SLS or mint.

I have the avene cicalfate and it didn’t make a huge difference. I though perioral dermatitis as the name suggests, but further investigation it looks nothing like it and doesn’t have the well defined border or raised patches

Hi OP. Since hyaluronic acid didn’t help much, Look for ceramides, cholesterol, fatty acids, squalane, panthenol, colloidal oatmeal, & glycerin. Also worth checking whether your cleanser is too stripping because that’s sometimes the hidden culprit with redness around the mouth/nose area.

redboxerclub · 24/05/2026 18:44

@1emma19thank you! I got the aveeno balm and it’s ok but not a miracle!!

my cleanser is camomile balm from body shop and cerave hydrating foaming cleanser.

I look for ceramides and cica but will add th others thanks!

@redboxerclub glad to hear the Aveeno balm is working, it was a lifesaver for me!

I’ve also checked the ingredients list on the Aveeno Baby moisturiser and it contains colloidal oatmeal as referenced by @1emma19 which isn’t something I had known about previously and now I know to look out for that. Love a MN thread where I learn something!

Have you tried argan oil? It does wonders for me and stopped scar tissue developing on my face whilst healing from seizures.
