If you had around this budget and wanted leather, what bead would you go for? I like a big bag but I really just like to hear of brands I don't know. I tend to like simple things and I probably wouldn't buy anything with prominent branding.

Try Strathberry for that budget, they're well made, simple elegant designs without brash logos. Very understated, classic luxury.

Since when could you get a Strathberry for £150?

Oh! How lovely to have so many recommendations to look at. I went to bed early last night and have been madly busy today, so I can have a relaxing evening going through them. Thank you all.

I was also going to suggest M&S Autograph but the leather ones are black. This chocolate or grey suede one is lovely though!

That is lovely. I probably shouldn’t have opened this thread 😂

I love both of these too - my most recent bag was from Lakeland, but it’s small for occasions and was only about £45. Very nice quality. Those bigger ones look lovely

i was told about this brand and I did get one of the crossbody bags. Lovely leather, plain, uncomplicated. I really like mine!

Thank you for those suggestions. I especially like the Radley and the &Other Stories ones although I would probably go for non suede as it will do quite a lot of work. A pity. Suede is so lovely!

Suede is maddening; so lovely but looks terrible really quickly.

I have a hobo bag from Swolit, a lot cheaper than £150 but really good quality leather and lining. I get loads of compliments on it. Lots of colours too. I have more expensive bags but I use this one the most.

You won't get Strathberry for £150. If that's what you meant.

My mate returned from Turkey with a work-of-art leather bag for that amount. No branding, amazing quality. When I ask her, she 'forgets' where she got it. My advice is to google Turkish bag makers and maybe buy from them? Her bag is so roomy, but not ugly, fits a laptop (bigger type) and looks amazing.

Same.
I've ordered one of the Osprey bags in a pp, and I definitely didn't need another bag. 😂

i would be weighing up here how much I want new vs a more expensive bag I maybe if I had the money I would have my heart set on. I would look at Vinted as it opens up other brands to you too, eg polene, mulberry, or even higher end designer (you can swerve logo heavy Gucci or Vuitton if that isn’t your thing) if you are able to accept a few ‘dings’. Whenever I’ve had new bags I am always worried about those first scuffs etc whereas I recently took delivery of a much loved and well lived bottega veneta tote for less than £150- and I won’t worry about it as is scuffed in places before I take ownership!

I have several vintage Mulberry bags, some have been with me for years, some I bought within that budget (£150 or less) It took time to find good bargains, but it’s possible. I had two of mine professionally restored (which obviously affects the budget) but I also restored my bags myself - extremely satisfying and great fun. I also love the feeling that a product made from animal hide got a second chance at life.

There are a lot of fakes in circulation but with a bit of research it’s not that difficult to spot the fake ones.

edit: typo

I have been toying with the idea of buying a Coach bag (large Brooklyn or Lana) second hand but they're seem to be still more than my budget and I am not sure if they're still decent quality now they have become so popular.

I'm really enjoying looking at the links. Thank you.

If the truffle coloured Osprey one had a leather rather than a woven strap, that would be my choice but I am tempted by lots!

Have you looked at John Lewis own brand? I have a mixture of coach and jl. Works for me!!

MerylSqueak · Yesterday 22:47

I have like their things in the past @ForeverTheOptomist but I can only see a black one I like at the moment and the more I think about it, the more I want a brown.
