Natural nails

Any other natural nail ladies here?
I want to big myself up and maybe get natural nails trending again so I don’t feel like the odd one out when I get a manicure!

I usually do them myself but they were in need of some care so I got a manicure yesterday. Took my own polish because I won’t use gel polish, then a top coat.

The darker colour was my own self manicure.

I worked as a chef for 15 years and had weak short clean nails so bigging myself up!

Photos being checked but have been added!
I always feel awkward asking for a natural manicure and there are never any non-gel polishes to choose anymore

Me! 💅 I do my own shape and polish with normal Essie polishes.

It lasts two weeks with base and top coat. Admittedly I’m gentle on them with no gardening etc.

Have you tried doing a Japanese manicure on your nails? It’s lovely, natural products and the shine easily last 3 weeks on me. It seems to improve the condition of my nails, providing you don’t over buff them, which you should never do.
My Japanese DIL introduced me to it.

You can buy the kit from Amazon. It’s called P.Shine Japanese Nail manicure set. The set last ages so it’s actually very good value. There’s videos on YouTube showing how to use it.

I might be being thick, but that looks like nails painted with polish? What’s natural about it?

Not acrylic false nails and not gel, I assume.

It’s not acrylic or gel nails.

Strandas · 17/05/2026 10:39

I understand how acrylic is different when they stick another nail on top of your nail, but there isn’t much difference between gel and regular. Both are polish, one cures under UV and one air dries. Both are as natural or as unnatural as each other!

Yes, I do natural nails of the "keep short with a pair of scissors, and don't use polish" variety.

I too have a job that doesn't mix well with polish, so just don't bother.

BauhausOfEliott · 17/05/2026 11:10

Your nails are very nice but I don’t really understand where you’re going for manicures that doesn’t stock nude nail polishes. Most places have plenty, gel and non-gel.

Newforspring · 17/05/2026 11:12

Eh, the local salon I wanted to try have just put a sign up saying gel/biab only, no polish .

This is the fear, I always feel awkward asking for a manicure and regular polish.

gel nail polish damages my nails and it also looks crap as it grows out

I don’t like the ongoing cycle and maintenance of gel etc so put regular polish on mine. I do like a manicure every so often for the cuticle work and have to take a bottle of polish as they don’t have any.

Yes, it’s frustrating. Ordinary manicures are not a great business model for salons. But, if they put gel on then most clients will return for removal and repeat the application of gel.

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 17/05/2026 13:16

And you can top up your own manicure not so easy to do your own gels/ fake nails

hence this post for natural nail appreciation so we don’t get pushed out of salons
