I am invited to a colleague wedding in June. Is this ghost dress too bridesmaid to wear as a guest? Or too ott? The bridesmaids are wearing teal..

Too bridesmaid and a touch too bridal!

It looks like a posh nightie to me 😆

FoulBlister · 16/05/2026 20:19

It looks like a nightie to me too. Not just the shape and fabric but the colour.

Besidemyselfwithworry · 16/05/2026 20:22

A cross between a bridesmaid and a posh nightie!
I absolutely wouldn’t buy this there’s so many other options available

Mmmkaay · 16/05/2026 23:13

Ghost dresses are very flattering - is there a stronger colour option you could try? Or similar to that but not floor length?

MsAlignment · 17/05/2026 05:30

Really, I’m tempted to arrange a wedding of my own just so I can issue a dress code with the invitation:

Lounge suits / day wear only. Anyone arriving in a long satin dress will be turned away at the door.

I normally agree that satin slips are flattering but even the model looks a bit lumpy in this particular dress.

MyGammyEye · 17/05/2026 05:41

No. Too bridesmaid/nightie.

Peony1985 · 17/05/2026 06:08

My friend wore something similar. It had more shape around the clevage, a little shorter and a stronger colour.
I think the idea is right but needs to be a bit smarter/less sloppy.

cramptramp · 17/05/2026 06:11

Bridesmaid. Very bridesmaid. And looks like a nightie.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 17/05/2026 06:14

I actually think it’s fine IF you can carry it off. It wouldn’t suit most figures.

SparklyGlitterballs · 17/05/2026 06:17

I'm with everyone else - too bridesmaid/nightie looking. I would think you were trying to take some shine off the bride if you turned up in that.

Tablesandchairs23 · 17/05/2026 06:18

Looks like a nighty

sesquipedalian · 17/05/2026 06:55

Too bridesmaid.

Happytaytos · 17/05/2026 06:56

Nightie.

Unless you're a stick with not an ounce of fat, this'll look bumpy.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 17/05/2026 08:24

we are having our religious wedding ceremony this summer and I wouldn’t have an issue with a guest wearing this kind of dress. But I’ll be wearing a fairly traditional bridal gown… so this definitely wouldn’t be too bridal in that context.

It‘s a fairly difficult dress to pull off imo. I suspect it will look like an unflattering nightie unless you happen to be tall, have a very slim and willowy figure…
I am saying this as somebody who is none of these btw.

edit:
Is „too bridesmaid“ really an issue?
But if you‘re truly worried, you could simply ask if there’s a particular colour scheme for the bridal party (which there usually will be). As long as that isn’t light blue / icy blue you ought to be fine.

DappledThings · 17/05/2026 08:27

I'm in the nightie camp too. I'm not even seeing bridesmaid, just nightdress.

TwinkleTwinkleX · 17/05/2026 20:38

Thanks for your thoughts! I’m shopping around.
i do like a classic / simple aesthetic but know what you mean about the nightie. I was thinking with accessories it could work but I think I can do better.
The wedding party are in green. For context I’m 5ft6 and size 4/6
