I need a wedding outfit that ticks specific boxes

I’m MOB later in the year but my plan to lose weight/get in shape is clearly not going to work out in time and I haven’t a clue what to wear that will be appropriate and feel ‘right’. I’d like to be both elegant and comfortable but that seems like an impossible combination.

I’m 5’2, a 16-18 with big boobs. I hate my arms and don’t have good legs. I don’t mind my boobs but realise they shouldn’t be taking centre stage on my child’s big day 😳

I don’t really suit the usual MOB type outfits - I did get a jumpsuit but it shows too much arm and I’m worried about going to the loo! I’ve bought nude sandals and clutch that I really like and they should go with most things.

Can anyone suggest something that ticks these boxes:

  • Covers arms to at least elbow but doesn’t look wintery
  • Long enough to hide legs but not so long I fall over it
  • Goes with my shoes and bag
  • Wedding colour scheme is green so I need to either avoid or complement
  • Budget up to £150ish

Thank you!

These are all LK Bennett ones, hugely reduced & very good quality (nearly all silk or silk blend), on Otrium. They're in size 16, 18 or both.

Just over budget & comes in petite. A bit cheap-looking maybe ...

Thank you for all of these! Definitely a few contenders - I’m leaning towards one colour with maybe lace or beading rather than the brighter floral patterns. There’s a pale blue one in the Next links which is lovely.

I like the Yours and Scarlett & Jo styles linked earlier and they would work but I’d like something that feels a bit more luxurious - tricky on my budget.

I wish there was another option than buying online but even when I’ve been to a big city with a good selection of shops, the choice and price range just doesn’t compare.

@CoastalGrey You could have a look on Monsoon.

Have you got a John Lewis within reasonable distance? A session with a personal stylist where you can actually try on things (having given your brief) would be far more beneficial than randomly ordering and potentially sending back loads of dresses

CoastalGrey · 14/05/2026 10:51

I haven’t shopped in Monsoon for years but I really like some of their dresses.

I have been to John Lewis but I thought they’d gone very high end and the ranges they offered seemed to be the top end of my budget and not as much choice as I’d expect. Again there’s much more online which is frustrating.

CoastalGrey I also forget about Monsoon, it came up when I was looking for dresses for you.

I wish that we still had more physical sores around here too. Monsoon, Dorothy Perkins, Next, Gap, Evans, Peacocks, Debenhams all gone.

I was looking in Sports direct the other day for something for my kids & there's a huge poster saying 'Better selection online' & I thought 'I've taken the time to come in here & you want me to go away & look online'. Very frustrating!

Sounds like you have similar issues to my mum! For my wedding (albeit a long time ago) she bought sari silk and had a suit made. Lots of fabrics that match so she got a pattern she liked to make quite a floaty jacket and skirt then a plain T-shirt style top (in the same weight of silk) trimmed with the jacket fabric. She reckoned it was no more expensive than buying a dress but it actually fit her properly and she looked fantastic. It's still in her cupboard and I know she wore it to a few events after my wedding so was good value.

None of the LK Bennett on Otrium work for you? They're almost all silk, which will definitely feel a lot more luxurious than the cheaper synthetic fabrics. And around £90 now instead of around £250-350.
