Beard dye helped my eyebrows

Someone suggested home dying menopausal thinning eyebrows on here - I duly bought just for men beard dye in a shade lighter than I’d have automatically chosen. It sat in my drawer for months, but I just vaselines up round my eyebrows, dabbed it on with an earbud, left it for about 90 seconds, washed my face, and, in less time it takes me to flows…I HAVE EYEBROWS!

thanks, mumsnet. I feel better

It’s good isn’t it ! I’ve recommended it on here before. Much cheaper than the proper brow stuff and a tube lasts ages

Toooldtocare25 · 13/05/2026 11:43

What a great idea 😁Glad it helped x

Does it last longer than brow dye?

MixedFeelingsNoFeelings · 13/05/2026 13:08

Yes, I asked for eyebrow-dye advice on here last year, and beard dye was the answer! It's the only thing that actually works. I have to supplement with a bit of pencil, and it only lasts 2 - 3 days on me, but that's still a big improvement on No Effect Whatsoever.

FlatErica · 13/05/2026 13:14

Wait a minute: it only lasts 2-3 DAYS? Is it even worth doing it?

MyCatLooksHappy · 13/05/2026 14:20

I’ve also tried just for men beard dye on eyebrows and whilst the results are good, it also only lasts a couple of days so I’ve decided it’s rubbish

MyCatLooksHappy · 13/05/2026 14:21

Oh and I leave it in for much longer than 90secs, usually about 5 mins and it still doesn’t last

Just for men dye - I read on here a couple of years ago that it was the same stuff only a fraction of the price as Dyebrow…looks very black for the first 24hrs but lasts weeks/months.
I leave it 8 -10min.

Is that the hair dye or beard dye?

Twatterati · 13/05/2026 14:44

I was recommended this by someone who worked at Superdrug. It’s brilliant - I leave it on for about 5 or 6 minutes and sometimes put it on again for a couple more minutes and it lasts weeks.

Normal brow tints, including professionally applied ones, don’t even take on my brows.

CoastalGrey · 13/05/2026 14:47

I wonder what the difference is - maybe it's something to do with beard hair being coarser/thicker in general.

I’m not sure! I’ve had the same tubes for a couple of years, maybe longer, so the box is long gone! Two 14ml tubes, one colour base the other colour developer. It does look really really black for the first 24hrs, but it soon fades to a more reasonable look!
If I had to guess I’d say it’s hair dye.

Seriestwo · 13/05/2026 15:36

I’d do it again and leave it on longer, I was a bit nervous.

I could do it while I floss. It’s cheap and fast and looks better than my attempts at brow shadow or pencil

Sorry - just occurred to me I’d probably bought it from amazon, so had a look on my buy again list. It was Moustache and Beard dye, I’d say if its not lasting long enough your just not leaving it on long enough.

Jiminyjim · 13/05/2026 15:50

Me too OP! Recommended on here.... It sat there for a while before I got chance to try it, then my teen DD got stuck into it! Now we all regularly 'beard dye' our brows! 😅

cathairshirt · 13/05/2026 17:15

Yes is great. Leave it on for ten minutes. Bit dark and scary first couple of days but then lasts a couple of weeks at a lovely natural colour for me. The beard one - medium brown I think.
