Which dress for the evening do of a wedding only?

I’ve been invited to a family member’s wedding reception, evening do only. I don’t think it’s overly formal. Which dress would you wear?

My plan is to wear it with some sandals and a matching bag, so not too dressy.

The polka dot is the nicest imo but best of a bad bunch

Why the need to be so bitchy? You could have just said "the polka dot is nicest" and stopped there.

I think @funksoulbrothers that if you are just invited to the party/evening bit of a wedding then you tend to see people in more night out stuff than wedding guest stuff. Trousers and and top not just a dress, potentially things you already have in your wardrobe. However if you do need to buy something new and would wear a dress like you've linked more often, that's a wise choice.

I don’t really own anything “night out” anymore, I’ve lost a lot of weight, I’m trying to find my style, and I don’t really go clubbing anymore

Also a booby girl here- I found loads of dresses last year on Roman - not too expensive (most were £25 --£45) and usually the right length of maxi - so tobybe ankle and not on the ground (I'm 5 6"). Took a few on holiday too.

CherryblossomRose · 10/05/2026 15:19

Not RTWT but pale pink spot is lovely. Polka dots are currently fashionable, plus the colour is nice. I think the others are lovely but not quite as nice. The first orange one is a style from about 5-6 years ago, as is the pink mix one. The short sleeve orange one isn't weddingy enough (IMHO).

Pale pink spot is the definite winner. Very nice.

Some of the comments on this thread are just plain nasty.
Photos of you in them would help the decision OP as it’s hard to imagine what they might look like on.
Sounds like the pink one is your fave so go for that one. If you feel amazing you’ll look amazing. Have a good time.

CloudyBayPlease · 10/05/2026 15:20

None of them are great, tbh.

I wouldn’t get too worked up about what to wear to an evening only invitation anyway. If I were the type to accept (I’m not), I’d wear a ‘going to the pub’ type of outfit.

This one has become probably the favourite thing I own, it’s gorgeous! It’s a really nice fabric too, not too heavy but also not too thin

Well just wear it. It's completely acceptable for an evening only invitation. It's much nicer than the others.

CherryblossomRose · 10/05/2026 15:22

Where is the pale pink one from please? I really like it!

CherryblossomRose · 10/05/2026 15:22

^ Spot one, I mean!

Nobody’s child on M&S! I’ve recently discovered their dresses and love them

I’ve found out since accepting this invite that evening only invites are apparently very controversial but it’s the best of both worlds for me. Get dressed up, have some fun, but not have to sit through the entire day

For a wedding or just in general? I think it’ll be lovely for a summers day if nothing else!

It's me being entirely subjective of course, but the cut and proportion, particularly the scoop, looks wrong. Is it your colour? Does it feel good on?
If so - go for it!

MJFEB2026 · 10/05/2026 15:25

I actually like them all!

Verite1 · 10/05/2026 15:25

I'm not really a fan of that shade of orange so it is clouding my view. Can we see you in the pink polka dot dress?

I do think that’s just how they’re hanging as they’re Vinted

i adore this dress, but i can’t help but think that it’s a lot to then wear again, im not sure that I would!

This dress is gorgeous, such a beautiful colour.
If you like it, you'll wear it again.
I really like Nobodys Child.

I do like this, but I worry that satin will be a little too much to wear everyday on holiday?

Polka dot, then green, then yellow. I'd put green first but satin...

I don't know why retailers don't work out that lots of us would like styles / elegance like the green dress but in sensible (e.g. not 100% synthetic) materials.

CherryblossomRose · 10/05/2026 15:27

Thanks! It is a lovely dress, perfect for the occasion. I would definitely go with that.

I like the first one. The one biggest in the pictures. The pink polka dot one is nice too.

I suspect these dresses look better on the person than on the peg.

A lot depends on your height and shape and colouring.

Some of the replies are downright rude and unnecessarily so.

Happy choosing !

Soupdragon41 · 10/05/2026 15:33

I might be on my own but I really like the orange/yellow scoop neck dress. It would look fantastic with the right accessories

BitOutOfPractice · 10/05/2026 15:33

The polka dot one is lovely. Plus you feel great in it. It’s a no brainer for me.

funksoulbrothers · 10/05/2026 15:35

I’ve just found the bow back nobody’s child dress on Vinted for £40, brand new with tags! It’s in turquoise but I think I have three contenders now - pink polka dot, green satin, and turquoise bow back.

OP you can’t suit all of these different colours. Look for something in a good colour for you.

I like the pink poka dot one best

I don’t really know how to find out what suits me?
